Just remember that a travel tripod needs to be able to fit in a suitcase if you want to fly with it and only the RRS TVC-24 amongst your choices does so.

I don't know, for sure (because I've never done it) but it could focus stacking. That is combining photographs that are focused at different distances. Note, his stuff screams HRD to me, so it's...

Unless you need to absolute best possible lens (In which case I say stick with a high end prime) I think the Nikkor 17-35 F2.8 is worth consideration too. It's almost as good as the Nikkor 14-24...

11X zooms should probably be referred to as OK at best. I now use a Nikkor 24-120 F4 on my D800 for a walk around lens which I call good but not great.... When I owned a D300 I used a Nikkor 18-200...

In addition to what Doug uses, I use the 24-120 which is a good lens but not in the same league as the other two. However, in those situations you can only take one lens it beats the other two with...

Note, to be frank, Richmond is not exactly the safest city in the Bay Area, to put it mildly and I'd stay someplace else and drive there for your work purposes only... note, I've only got daylight...

The 24-120 is the most versatile lens you mention and it's a good (but not great) lens for the D800. Of course, if money and convenience were not being considered then it would be a whole different...

According to somebody else that replied (Bob Greenberg) there is "at least" one interesting town to photograph. Does the tour include these kind of places too?
Thanks,

The look is a bit flat. This comes from using a single slightly soft front source. Natural light from a northern facing window might be better if you don't want to use multiple lights.

We live in an insane time so I wouldn't even think of risking it if I were you. The risks are as dire as being branded a sex offender and being forced to live under a viaduct bridge... Seriously,...

It my be obvious, but somebody had to say it, get a bigger room. Also shooting from your balcony, assuming the room has one, might help.

It not obvious to me that a B&W is better than a Hoya. Sure the brass frame is sexy but Hoya actually make the optical filter glass in most other filters including some of the most exotic and...

My wife used to travel with a Canon G10 and it is capable of reasonable landscape shots, nothing too fancy or too big but still reasonable, so the idea of shooting with a compact is viable....

It might have been shot with a Lesnsbaby...

Tripods and heads are about two things:
o Keeping your camera steady.
o Keeping your gear safe.
If you don't really need the first then hand hold your camera. If you don't need the second then I...

Sounds like my wife might even like this suggestion...

I'm going to have a lot of gear to stroll on beaches, if you know what I mean... Even though this summer I'll not be expecting bears on my vacation so I'll be leaving the Sigma 150-500 at home.......

I'm going to Kauii the last week of May and I'd like some location recommendations. I'll be travelling with a Nikon D800, 17-35 F2.8, 24-120 F4, 70-200 F4, a TC 1.4 and a travel tripod. I know...

I'm a bit curious as to why this is of concern to you?

Who did you talk to on the phone? They, always give their name....
