Manfred Bachmann: Testshots with a Kit zoom?? Why not put an 50/1,4 or any other good lens on it? For me this shots shows nothing, because this lens is simply outresolved!
manfred

This actually make sense since this is the lens packaged with this body - for the buyer this kit - they would want to see these samples - but I do agreed that a better lens would be nice for folks with better lenses - perhaps DPR would do in the future?

just curious - why would DPR provide firmware notice for the D4/users and yet - the camera has not been review?

I downloaded this jpg - processed with Aperture in auto enhance mode with auto sharpen - it's not bad at all and looks very acceptable - like to see the raw file and have this shot @ F8.

coming from this sensor - this is not bad at all - it actually look decent and I'm surprised @ ISO 800 - the noise level is very acceptable.

Considering the technical aspect - it's not that bad:

Shutter speed: 1/15 sec
Aperture: F5.6
ISO: 4000

Good job Nikon - this lens looks like a winner and the price point appear to be reasonable - just hope their manufacturing can keep up with demands.

Octane: I don't understand the obsession with who manufactures the sensor. Looking at the DxO tests Nikon has 6 cameras in the top 10 list. Canon, who makes their own sensor, has one in 10th place. And that one camera is their most expensive one, while the D600 is the most affordable full frame camera today.
Nikon is smart, they pick the best from different suppliers and put it together as an amazing camera. That's what made the difference for them in the past 6 years where people thought they were hopelessly behind to now being the top quality SLR producer.

Agreed with Octane:

Who cares who makes the sensor as long as it works ...!

My Apple iMac's CPU is from Intel and the graphic chip is from ATI Radeon - why does it perform better then my Windows 7 with the same Intel/ATI setup? - it's all about 'how' it is implemented and in this case - Nikon's implementation made it possible scoring 94 on DxOMark.
