Mike Ronesia: How is the macro mode on this camera? It could be perfect for an underwater housing.

I believe LX100 would give excellent Macro among PNS

LarsLeibgott: I would very much like DPR to run a simple dust test on all these cameras. A Google search for the X100/X100s, RX100 line, Ricoh GR, X30, and so on down the line, reveals that sensor dust is a fairly serious problem (serious in relative terms, of course) with fixed lens compacts. I think it should be par for the course once DPR finish their hands on - f/16 at the sky and check for dust. These are cameras that have street photography very much in mind in terms of design, so it's not like shooting at f/11 and above is an abnormal condition. What do you say, DPR?

Dust problems continued
A few case reports and a trend or an incidence of a particular camera with respect to the dust issue and the so called pumping mechanism effects are totally different.
One could not simply extrapolate the findings of a particular issue or branded camera to another one assuming it behaves the same??
Dust issue are related to the following
1.dry dust
2.environment
3.personal care and handling
4.seals or gaskets integrity of the fixed lens and any gaps .seals.OVF.eVF ,pop up flash areas or any potential areas of gaps where there will be an ingress of micro / nano /pico or femto dust particles
5. storage and casing
6.endemic to a certain brand or quality control issue will never become epidemic to other camera brands hence the trends and incidences.
7.pressure gradients between the inner capsule of a camera and the ambient pressure in the presence of dusts.
8,Air changes/convection and radiating currents around the camera

shutterpete: I can't help feeling that my old Fuji X20 lens gave sharper crisper results than the LX100 samples seen here. Can anyone agree or disagree?

Disagree

I'll never buy it.

I know better. I've owned 4 Panasonic cameras, a couple of TVs, and some other crap from that company. NONE OF IT WAS AS GOOD AS OTHER BRANDS. NONE OF IT!

Joker??

SulfurousBeast: Anyone think "made in china" LX100 is a dampener or even a deal breaker? Sort of this premium compact losing its cachet? Wonder where the Typ109 is made, dont want a made in China Leica, that's me though... But guess a lot of you out there thnking along the same lines...?

Nowadays one could not stay away from Made in China products and as long as the ISO Quality control is there with bench marking China products are NO problems IMHO

SteveY80: I wish Panasonic had included a tilt screen. I'm looking to replace my Nikon 1 and that would have made this an easy choice.

As it is, it'll be very hard to decide between this, an RX100III, or one of the smaller interchangeable lens M4/3 cameras.

The manual shutter speed and aperture controls on this camera make it a very tempting prospect even with that big omission.

I have ordered one

Mike FL: So far, Canon G7X has much higher Pre-order sales ranking# than LX100.

Of Course, both are way behind RX100-3.

Quality not quantity it counts

CuriousExistence: I have a Sony RX100, and I use the built-in flash in two cases: for a very effective bounce flash for indoor portraits, and a fill flash at the beach. In both scenarios it works wonderfully.

I'm big into target demographics for devices, and I'm confused on Panasonic's approach to the LX100. The audience for a compact all-in-one camera like this are people who don't want to carry around extra gear that they would have to with an ILC. Are they even going to use a hot shoe? Will they want to carry around a detachable flash?

It seems like Panasonic determined that the only way they could stand apart from Sony in this market segment was to have a larger sensor and brighter lens, but they were forced to leave out features that are important to compact users - a flash and potentially an ND filter.

The G7X seems like it has more of the features that single-camera compact users want integrated.

Those who complained about built in flash were the people who never shoot or experience with LX7.I used LX3 and LX7.Flash used i would say less than 5% of my shots with both.Flash is prohibited in museums /exhibits and public places and LX7 is a joy to use in low light/macro/museum and restaurants. It is a nuisance to use flash photography in such places where people were frown upon you with no respect to the community and selfishness. People keep complaining the product even before the release/experience and actual usage and to further evaluate the outcomeof the shots without flash in LX100
