Roy Anderson 4266: I've been on the hunt for a while on an "all-in-one" replacement for my DSLR and took the plunge with the FZ1000. I have to say, this thing is fast and loaded with useful features. I've tried replacing the DSLR many times and always get hung up on the poor quality of the EVF. This is the first camera I've tried with what I consider a usable EVF for most things. Great camera, great pictures, and fun to use. Panasonic has a real winner in this camera. I'm not going to miss lugging around the DSLR and all the lenses.

Almost there Just a matter of time watch this screen
fed up with heavy gear lens /change lens/dust .......so on
not practical for consumers may be for pro and studio work for 99% of the population one for all solution is good enough for travel/macro/landscape/HDR/panorama/4K video /focus peaking/clean HDMI out/mic input and HD snapshot grabs for real time 4K video rolls/Leica glass/nocturnal shots/wireless NFC/wifi apps,,,Too many to mention on this space where a pricey SLR as a single unit for TRAVEL never accomplished
You could get the whole package in a single peice with a price equivalent to the cost of one Telephoto lens for an SLR with reference to the big boys group prices

pcworth: Does this camera really have lower noise/higher image quality than the Canon T4i at high ISO?

I currently use the FZ200 for my general travel camera and a T4i+70-200 f/2.8 for photographing figure skating friends. This seems like an interesting alternative, at least for the FZ200, but I am skeptical about the noise when shooting at 800+ ISO (often 1600) given the difference one stop slower aperture at 200mm on this camera compared to the Canon.

Because FZ1000 would replace both for all requirements ON top of that 4K viideo!

Mike FL: Buyer beware:

FZ100's 4K is NOT wide angle, and here is LOST from Pana FZ1000's Spec, but FOUND as following:

"4K movies are taken from the center of the sensor and surrounding pixels are discarded. This cropping changes the effective focal length of the lens to the equivalent of 37mm to 592mm."

No problems

minzaw: ?? Amphibian??water and dry land??

The word "Amphibian" is derived from the Ancient Greek term ἀμφίβιος (amphíbios), which means "both kinds of life", ἀμφί meaning "of both kinds" and βιος meaning "life". The term was initially used as a general adjective for animals that could live on land or in water, including seals and otters.[11] Traditionally, the class Amphibia includes all tetrapod vertebrates that are not amniotes.

Freddy got hydophobia (hates water) >> Amphibian???

Definition
Amphibians typically start out as larva living in water, but some species have developed behavioural adaptations to bypass this. The young generally undergo metamorphosis from larva with gills to an adult air-breathing form with lungs. Amphibians use their skin as a secondary respiratory surface and some small terrestrial salamanders and frogs lack lungs and rely entirely upon skin

exception Water Salamander!

munro harrap: The high iso performance at 3200 iso is so bad the machine certainly does not merit a gold award.Manual focus and zoom are also questionably defective-slow to the point of useless for exactly the kind of quick snap stills photographers buy this sort of thing. so I guess it gets Gold as it has 4K nobody can yet see or edit properly. As we cannot see its 4K movies at their resolution we do not know if it is any improvement on the HD we can see. All that glisters....

Yes, at this price its a steal-of your money!!!

Editing 4K movies will prolly need top of the line CPU and a fast ssd

redlinda: Regarding ergonomics, I have small hands and would have difficulty holding the FZ1000. I love my new Sony RX10. It fits perfectly in my hand, I can reach all the buttons, and quality is tops.

Have u hold the FZ1000 physically??? please do not speak too soon small hands!
