dear mike, luckily this lady in this pic isn't my wife but an innocent bystander (who would shoot me too, probably:}

On Hoover Dam in the Dams challenge (2 comments in total)

Hi RAYoung
Thanks for the correction.
You're right, I got confused.
It was my first trip to nature reserves in the west.
Your image, of the same dam, is better and should have ranked higher.

Would it not be better to submit two pictures - Color + B.W. ?

Hi dear UPGirltographer

Many thanks for the appreciative comment.
If you want to see the full color image I downloaded it now in my galleries.
I liked the toned version better.
I hope we find that more viewers and voters have an excellent taste like
yours!

Thanks again

Hi Barb_s, thanks, the pic was taken in a small restaurant in Barceloneta .
I just added some vignetting to it.

I had a slightly different reaction that BettyH. I liked the shadow lines. Without them, I think it would be a perfect nice, but unremarkable, photo of a bird. But the shadows added visual interest to me.
I suspect that you'll be getting lots of comments on both sides of this. :-)
Ideally, I'd like to see all the highlight details in those feathers. Was the RAW file overexposed to an extent to where all those details were lost? If not, I would suggest adding them back to the finished image.

This is nice but I found the shadow lines a bit distracting on the bird. It's a bit of a tight crop but nice against the dark background

The improved version.
more background around the subject, more details of the white feathers and a slightly bigger orange foot on the right of the pic.

Very nice shot, hard to get white details and keep the shadows, but somehow you managed both. My only problem with it, is lack of room, is very tied, I would give this bird some more room

Very good composition and image sharpness. Good colour balance. Interesting shadows. Enough details in the highlights. Personally, I would have like to see a little more of the orange colour on the lower right side of the bird to better balance the image. Nice image, A+

I agree about adding more detail/highlights in the feathers if the whites weren't blown. It looks like its highly cropped, so not sure if you have those details available. Also, if cropped, I may like to see a little larger on the bottom and right to see the rest of its foot under water.

snow, white and simply to the point - but not colorful.

snow and winter are really the subject of this challenge. the pic manages to transfer to us the feeling of nature in white.

i like the balance in the pic but would prefer a bit more details and interest in the background.
it really manages to give afeeling of a cold winter.

a very interesting and beatiful idea, it would help, as mentioned by others, to have the red berries brighter
i would prefer to move the red berries a little to the left to get the preferable result of 1/3 composition.
