They DO look like they're from cell phone camera. All highlights are severely blown out, quite a bit of flare. Or maybe it is because the photographer has never used digital equipment before.

Old FF bodies like 5D or D700 are dirt cheap now (at least here in my country), so it actually makes more sense to keep a FF system for portraits than spending $$$$ on lenses for small format.

They are actually way more expensive than APS or FF counterparts. Check the prices of pana 20mm 1.7 / 25mm 1.4, Oly 45mm 1.8 and Oly 75mm 1.8. Also there are no such thing as affordable ultrawide...
