dave vichich's current gear

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ1000
Canon EOS 6D
Canon EOS 70D
I just bought this camera, I'll rate it in a few weeks.
If this camera gave me a couple more frames/sec, and a little better autofocusing system, it'd be 5 stars. On IQ alone, it's a 5.
The 70D was going to be my in-between camera waiting for a 7DMKII to come out. It works so well for my kind of shooting, I feel that I no longer need the 7DMKII.
Sony Alpha NEX-3
Sony Alpha NEX-7
Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM
First dip into the Sony interchangeable lens cameras. I was never to thrilled with ether of them, (Nex 7) but I don't think I really gave them a chance.
If this camera had the lay out of my Canons, I'd probably love it. But the menu system really bogs it down.
Canon EF 135mm f/2.8 SF
Canon EF 17-40mm f/4.0L USM
Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM
Canon EF 300mm f/2.8L IS USM
Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II
Canon EF 50mm f/2.5 Macro
This lens is so sharp it makes my eyes bleed.
Not a great lens, but at the price, everyone should have one.
I rarely use this lens, it focuses slowly, but the photos are very crisp and sharp.
Canon EF 70-200mm f/4.0L USM
Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM
Canon EF-S 15-85mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM
The other lens that my wife has taken over. I would say that it really doesn't do anything great, but it does everything a bit above average.
IMO, this should be rated as an "L" lens. It is a fantastic lens, but for some reason I rarely use it. Probably because the 18-135 stm kit lens has a better range and 95% of the IQ.
Canon EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM
Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS
Canon Extender EF 1.4x II
For a kit lens, the quality is surprising. The 4.5 star rating isn't because it can replace "L" lenses. It's there because I believe it to be the best kit lens Canon offers for a crop camera.
Colors are a bit dull, focusing is slow, and the details aren't there. On a budget it works as long as you can fill the frame, if you need to crop, you'll be disappointed.
Does what it was made to do.
Canon Extender EF 2x II
Sigma 120-300mm F2.8 DG OS HSM
Sigma 18-250mm F3.5-6.3 DC Macro OS HSM
Does what it was made to do.
This lens is so good, I'm probably going to sell my 300L f2.8is. I use it with a tc, and the fact that it's a zoom allows me change things up without running around. 95 - 98% of the IQ of the Canon 300L f2.8is.
I bought this as a travel lens, and for that, it works very well.
Sigma 2x EX DG Tele Converter
Sony E 16mm F2.8 Pancake
Sony E 18-200mm F3.5-6.3 OSS
As good as Canon 2X version II.
This is a very good all in one lens. The only reason to have to 18-55 kit lens is to save on size and weight.
Sony E 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 OSS
Tamron AF 18-250mm F/3.5-6.3 Di II LD Aspherical (IF) Macro
Tamron AF 28-75mm F/2.8 XR Di LD Aspherical (IF)
I bought this long ago, at that time it was a pretty good all in one lens. As time went by, it has fallen to the wayside.
Tamron SP AF 17-50mm F/2.8 XR Di II LD Aspherical (IF)
Tokina AT-X 10-17mm f/3.5-4.5 DX Fish-eye
This used to be my go to lens when the light was getting low. I loaned it to my wife 3 years ago, she won't give it back. Great lens.
I haven't used this lens much, but it is a fun lens, built like a tank.
