I always enjoy your photos CC, especially when your DIL gets involved.
Here's a question for you: Why do the lake freighters have the vertical bows? I'm used to sea-going ships with a slanted bow.

Awww....she is pretty. Be prepared for an onslaught of young men piled up against your front door. :-D

Of course all the A57 camera functions will still work but there's no Sony-compatible flash on the hot shoe that understands what the camera is telling it to do. That Canon flash will just sit...

That's the way I've always bought my filters, eg, Ø55 means 55mm filter. I googled for pics and for sure the SAL1855 versions I and II take 55mm filters. If the cap says 55mm and fits fine then...

I like the backlighting Brian. The back-lit sparrow with the halo around him is cool.
I think those back-lit spiky seed pod cocklebur things are a good candidate for a close up macro.

Sony HVL-F20AM ($149) and it will fit your A55 Minolta-style hotshoe.
The downside is it's not as powerful as the other flashes people are suggesting.

I just picked up a used A850 for $1079 in Ex+ condition from KEH. I'm freaking out here.
If no one beat me to the punch I should get it before the week is out.

Yeah, that's my guess too, the Sigma 50mm f1.4. It's too small for the 85mm f1.4 which is another outstanding Sigma lens.

The A55 is out of production and the entire SLT line of digital cameras is not your traditional DSLR-type camera with a moving, flipping mirror. The A55 has been replaced by the A57 which will very...

Huh? You have been misinformed.
Check the Sigma Tech Specs, OS is available in both the Sigma 50-500 and 150-500 for Sony/Minolta A-mount. I have the OS stabilized 150-500 and the OS look is pretty...

I attended The Big Photo Show at the Los Angeles Convention Center yesterday. Sony and Sigma had booths there along with some local camera stores, framing and printing services and others. Several...

There's no other way to say it - that sucks. OTOH, you have the perfect reason to get a really nice II version with faster AF.
If it were me, I'd take the broken lens apart and take photos of a...

Page 137 & 138 of the A77 user guide says to use manual mode when using the sync terminal. The old fashioned (late 1940s?) PC Sync terminal is dumb and doesn't know if a flash/strobe is attached.

I've been wanting to try a novel experiment (for me) for a few weeks now. Finally the day was sunny and free of breezes so I set up a 42" diffuser w/ stand and took some flower photos. The diffuse...

I have the Sony 2x TC and the 70-300G. It doesn't fit. No way. No how. Fuggeddaboutit. It works darn well on my 135STF though.
Officially, the Sony 1.4x & 2x TC's only support the 70-200G, 300G and...

Well you have the technical stuff down pretty good. Action is frozen, you pushed the shutter button at the right time and captured the moment, and exposure is good.
Composition could use some more...

I have both the Lumiquest Pocket Bouncer and Lightsphere Cloud. Some time ago I did some comparison shots to see how they compared.
For me the Lightsphere seems to be a...

I think it's largely a matter of personal preference and end application on how high is too high ISO.
The DPReview has a comparison tool that let's you judge for yourself and even download their...

I like these Sam. His crest still seems a tiny tiny bit dark. I tried lightening it up a little but the adjustments were so small it might just be differences in our monitors.
You're right, this...
