On Sigma announces dp1 Quattro article (202 comments in total)
In reply to:

RStyga: As much as I like Sigma, they need to drop this Quattro-design fiasco A-S-A-P before they surpass the SD1 original release-price fiasco. WHAT ON EARTH did the designers think when creating the Quattro??? IT IS ugly, IT IS grossly not ergonomic, IT IS not compact in any conceivable way!!! There is nothing positive to this design at all. Sigma wake up...

It is the best thing to hold when shooting. It is very much like SLR with similar lens. Up to 2500 photos and counting and every day it gets better.

Interesting targets scattered around, between very large to 1:1.

semorg: I'll wait an see if they are truly f/2.8 at the 1:1 ratio position or if the the 2.8 is at longer range. Also I would be curious about the diaphragm design and the kind of bokeh this lens can produce. For me the best 180 lens and probably the best lens created remains to be leica 180/2.8 apo.

"The macro lens has a rounded nine-blade diaphragm to create an attractive blur to the image’s out-of-focus areas."

IcyVeins: What is the "extreme" filter here? Looks like just a brown/sepia overlay to me.

Agree, one of the least extreme in this challenge.

scrabble666: Hi there

Is using SPP4.2 considered as post processing?
Because I never took a jpg shot with my camera.

greetz from Oliver

Congrats to winner. An excellent picture with breat composition. Also it was different from the main stream where most was shot to sundown horizon.

And the photo really fits the Soft Light series;-)

In reply to:

John of Brisbane: I'm amazed that you would DQ my entry on the basis that 'Dusk is the beginning of darkness in the evening, and occurs after twilight, when the Sun is under the local horizon. " and the sun was clearly below the horizon and yet there are clearly at least 5 other photos here that look almost exactly like mine. Could you please explain how YOU can tell that the sun is not below the horizon when a shot it taken directly AT the horizon and the sun is GONE. There is even one shot on this page where the sun is clearly visible well above the horizon. If you are going to DQ entries then please be consistent.

If one thinks DQ was unfair one can allways submit the same or other image, or send a message to host. Host may do mistakes as we all do.

In reply to:

mirrorrorrim: I think that about 80% of the entries are not technically dusk, but rather sunsets.

People seems ignore the rules, sometimes.

In reply to:

John of Brisbane: There are some which are obviously taken in broad daylight as well. It would have been helpful to include the definition in the rules. But if not, then consistent rather than selective DQ'ing should be applied. Challenge owner is very quiet on this .. even in the forum.

I try to be as consistent as possible.

If you see an image against rules you can make a complaint.

Roland Karlsson: RULES IN PHOTO CONTESTS

I have never seen any open/free contest (like this one) where images not following the theme are disqualified - unfortunately.

So - a sunset might win this dusk competition.

Thats a sad fact.

So - just send a charming picture of a cute dog or baby in the broad day sun. It might just win!

Roland, have you missed the word 'not'?

If the camera makes the the panorama it is ok. If it stitched in pc then it is postprocessing. I will judge it this way.
