The crop factor varies slightly 1.6X for Canon, 1.5X for pretty much everyone else.

APS-C sensors have a crop factor that changes the field of view of a lens. So a 50mm lens on an APS-C camera has the same field of view as a 75mm lens on a full frame camera.

Did you use Spot AF or Single AF point? The 7D's Single AF point is much larger than the AF point displayed in the view finder and could have easily picked up and focused on the high contrast edge...

What Picture Style are you using?
Neutral and Faithful have no sharpening applied and are intended to be sharpened in post processing.
Set your camera back to Standard or Landscape and then compare...

Since shallow depth of field is used to create an out of focus area, I guess your oof would have a dfferent perspective. Not that perspective of the oof matters much to me.

Buffer size is based on memory size, not processor speed.

DOF equivalency depends on how you compensate for the difference in the field of view, move back twice as far, use the same focal length and the DOF is equivalent to f/4 not f/5.6.
