Do we have any real evidence of practical difference? It is interesting to note that the SX40 ISO range matches the G11 and G12 and that the SX50 and G15 are also the sameas each other. Given...

Don't forget that a 270mm lens on the T4i will likely capture pretty similar levels of detail as the 840mm on the SX40... when at full zoom with good light. Anything else and the T4i can be...

Sorry for doubling up here...If you are spending over... err, under $400 that is... you should look at a camera that has a built-in intervalometer, unlimited bracketing options, longer than 15...

I've shot thousands of DNGs and while some individuals have issues with initial install or usage... I have yet to hear of anyone that has not successfully gotten RAW/DNG out of an SX40, or any...

The SX40 does... unless I'm missing something. Better yet, DNG. :]

I believe the RAW (DNG in my case) are all the same size as they are not compressed DNG. Mine are all 19MB. I have a few CR2 from before I switched to DNG and they are also 19MB.

I agree that there are likely tradeoffs associated with the huge (look at the SX50's 50x) zoom ranges associated with these cameras. That said, the question is whether or not those tradeoffs are...

Just curious, are you aware of any camera that costs less than a DSLR that doesn't suffer from reduced pixel-level sharpness and relatively poor low light capability? Even with a limited zoom...

That's up to 20 stops, though I would guess that that is based on exposure readjustment by looking at a bright object then at another point in time at a dim object?Makes me wonder about adjusting...

Framerate and delay are two separate measures. Do you know that the delay is necessarily equal to the framerate in this case?
-
Would you be willing to hazard an estimate of the angular FOV of an OVF as it presents itself to the eye? APS-C and/or FF?
-
If you are saying 10,000:1... note that that is just over 13 stops, same as the A77 according to DXOMark.

Guesstimate was the wrong word, at least since I left it unqualified. What I should have asked for was how many photos have been taken with YouR camera (with the individual reader being 'you'). I...

For reference I'd be curious to see various people's reaction times:

Admittedly a far from scientific test, but hey...

Just added the golden rectangle overlay, now to internalize how to use it:

Any guess as to shutter count? 10's of thousands? 100's of thousands? Just looking for some vague guesstimate here...
-
Is there good data on the life of P&S cameras as there is for DSLR shutters?

Good for a laugh... but a lot of truth is said in jest :]

The thing is that you can buy four off-brand for less than the price of one genuine Canon... unless prices have come down?

In theory... nothing I would guess? Given that the shutter is spring loaded one direction I would take a guess that the motor 'cocks' the shutters and the exposure occurs when the shutters are...
