Less than impressive. They all look a bit insipid to me.

What's missing that you were hoping for - or what are other manufacturers offering that these cams do not?
-
The short answer is yes, it is normal. The Sony is a point and shoot compact set up to provide you with finished shots straight out of the camera. You can set the Canon similarly if you want to...

Oh yes he does!

My question also would be what the course requirements are and what type of photography you will be covering. If you really want to learn photography I would buy a film camera with some basic black...

My point really is that all cameras are a compromise in some way. I've been looking for a quality pocket camera for some time now but I must have a 24mm lens. The search is frustrating. There are...

The two don't compare. The rx100 has a 28mm lens against the 24mm. I don't think anybody ever really means that something isn't possible - I think what they generally mean is that, at that moment...

Jerry, it's no big deal, really, but I said for sharp shots look at shutter speed, good technique and processing, which is almost exactly what you wrote. You also added focussing which I agree...

Yes, it came from here:
http://snapsort.com/compare/Canon-PowerShot-SX270-HS-vs-Canon-PowerShot-SX280-HS
But I have since seen specs that contradict. So I don't know where this site got the info.

I know. I've been busy. Couldn't resist it.

Incredible. You have a little tantrum and then quote back to me almost exactly the points I made.

There are so many newbies that have no experience, you have no idea how to gauge their response.

I presume all manufacturers have at least one eye on feedback but any camera is also restricted by physical limits and price point. I've been looking for a pocket camera for a while now...

They are basically identical except the 270 has a panorama feature which the 280 does not, and the 280 has high dynamic range which the 270 does not. The 280 also has GPS which the 270 does not....

Not really sure of the point of your posting. If a competitors camera has all the features you want and you are happy with it what's stopping you from purchasing?
-
I second that. The others may be nice cameras but 24mm is essential for me and the s120 looks to fit the bill exactly. Fitting a decent 24mm lens into a small space is not that easy so I accept...

What sort of tripod are you using? For sharp images look at shutter speed, general camera holding techniqe and processing. For very sharp images you need a good solid tripod.

The image is good because of the era and subject. They wouldn't get published today.

I want to purchase a high quality compact. Budget up to about £300. It must have a 24mm lens and must be properly pocketable. Any thoughts and suggestions?
Thank you
