I have been waiting for so long for an ultra wide 2.8 non fish prime for so long, bravo samyang, bravo!
Apewithacamera: I just gotta have this!
I do a lot of night photography in near total darkness so i need an OVF and i like to edit my RAW files on a big screen. A DSLR fits my needs perfectly so i wont be going mirrorless any time soon. Not that there is anything wrong with them, i just like using a DSLR as i feel its the correct tool for me.
Its not the same i know but i had Canon's 60mm macro for my crop body, found the focal length really awkward to work with and sold it quite quickly.
Add RAW capture to a device with this sensor and i think it could be pretty awesome.
Looks like the grip is made of really crap material and gets in a bad state real fast, thats a new camera and look at the state of it already, it looks like its 10 years old already!
Nikon keep on bringing out new 1 series bodys but the lens line up is still pretty lame, sort it out nikon, if you want this to be a viable system you best start bringing out some sexy fast glass!
f/2 is too slow and £799 is too high, i was hoping for a decent 35mm prime but this is not it
Generally, people that use this camera really don't need a user guide and people that need a user guide probably shouldn't start with a camera like this, just my 2 cents.
Holger Salvador: 3 years ago I had the chance to compare the Leica D-LUX 5 with wit its PANASONIC sister. I couldn't understand why the price is so diffrent. The hardware is the same but the diffrence is the software, inside the camera and the programme you get for your computer (in this case Phase 1). You can make better pics with the Leica by shoting raw than with the PANASONIC. So you hade a better garantie (3 years), a much more better programm for computer and the better pics and the 3 dot was for free.I would not buy this camera, but bredfore anybody scream take a second look!
There is a big difference between a D-lux and a V-lux, the D-lux/panny lx5 are a bifferent breed to this over priced point n shoot
This is like sticking a Porsche badge on a Beetle and selling it for double the price!
I WANT ONE!
My 1st ever digi-cam was worse than this at ISO 400 lol
Seriously though thats not bad for such extremes, i wonder what it would look like in better light (prob still need B+W conv)
I downloaded the full rez file to run it through some NR, admittedly it was not easy but the file came out surprisingly clean so if shooting raw and you have good NR software these high ISO setting wont be that much bother.
'Eye-catching “body mount cap” design, along with a toy-camera-like visual effect'Pin hole by any chance?
jurci: Would love to see a Mirror 500/8 (or 6.3 even!) for Canon full sized sensor 5D MII. Minolta used to have one!

All i know is... I WANT ONE, this will sit nicely along side my DSLR. It's that simple :)
Blimey, chill out folks, its only a new product in a vast market place, its not going to change the world, its not going to 'kill' off DSLR's. Some will love it, some will hate it, deal with it.
Anstef: This is ridiculous. There are at least 26 letters in the alphabet, more if you include accented letters and other symbols. Why on earth call this camera the G1X? These letters have been used and overused. Time for Canon to display some originality in naming convention rather than their usually moronic camera designations .. Mark III, mark IV, rebel???, Kiss??? Their head of marketing and for that matter everyone in their marketing dept should be fired.
I know it sounds daft but i recall reading somewhere that they didnt call it the g13 because the west is superstitious of the number 13 and they didnt call it g14 because the number 4 is considered bad luck in japan (also why they never did a g4 or g8 (multiples of 4 are bad too aparently) how much truth there is in that i dont know.
Gavril Margittai: Hate to be a killjoy, but if anyone believes that possessing these two lenses will make them a better photographer he is wrong. Having these two lenses will not improve picture quality.
If serious about photography and with available money to spend I would rather buy studio lights if one works on portraits, or a good sturdy tripod if nature & landscape are your thing. Both these two will make much more impact. Oh and I almost forgot. Spend on Photography and Photoshop courses.
@Gavril, do you only use a kit lens? do you not need faster glass for shallow DoF? ofcourse better glass makes for better image quality. The best thing you can do to improve your images is to get glass beyond the basic and all to often slow and soft kit lens.
Thats beautiful, good luck in the comp :)
