  • X-Trans absolutely DOES have a "demonstrable advantage" over the D7000, just look at the DPR Studio test to see the difference between the D7100 and XPro1 RAWs at ISO 6400. (Note the D7100 performs...
  • Commented on Olympus PEN E-P5 Review preview

The SL1? You mean the one with the great photo quality, video quality, VF, and blurring issues with common shutter speeds?

Seriously, do you need a wambulance? :-)

  • And why did Pentax go through the trouble and expense of implementing yet another Auto Exposure mode?  Because if you have Auto ISO in M, it is no longer a full Manual mode, but another Auto...
  • Great story but who cares? Use whatever you want, leave the industry analysis to the tech bloggers and fan forums.  No offense but yours is just another fanboy post confusing removing the mirror...

Not true. Have a look at DxOMark to see the D800 as the best all-around performing sensor of any camera. Better DR, Color...

Not true at all. Have a look at DxOMark to see the D800 as the best all-around performing sensor of any camera. Better DR,...

  • @yabokkie

Pentax and Nikon are absolutely great at getting more out of Sony sensors than even Sony (see K-5/D7000). Must be magic pixel dust. Cheers.

  • From what I've read, the E-M1 burst rate is 6.5 fps. As Olympus did with the EM-5, they like to write 10 fps in the specs, but since that is with AF locked, it's really not all that useful. As far...
  • > Pentax can almost beat D600 by cooking itself.

I don't know that Pentax cooks anything, but their best camera, the K-5 IIs doesn't "almost beat" the D600. It's a great camera though.

    DxOMark...

  • > D600 still holds a bit of an advantage in image quality

A "bit of an advantage"? A comparison with the D7100 would be more appropriate. The D600 IQ is close to class leading for all FFs. It's...

Of all the recent m43 releases, the GX7 is the most interesting to me.  I loved my GX1 / 20 f/1.7 combo and the GX7 has improved on the GX1 in pretty much every way.  The rangefinder style form...
  • Whether or not the Olympus system is considered a "pro" system is going to depend of mostly on the definition of pro and the type of pro photography you are talking about. Olympus gambled years ago...
  • These are absolutely gorgeous. The colors (in particular the beautiful greens in the first few images), detail, and clean, low-noise files show why the D7100 is probably THE premier crop sensor...

If I had a fraction of your abilities for making portraits, there is no way in the world I'd change my D800 for a small sensor mirrorless. I've owned 5 m43 cameras, but even with the fastest...
  • > If you use Adobe Raw converters, they won't do sharp Xtrans shots (yet)

That is just not true. Look at the DPR Studio Test RAWs in the link just above and change one of the cameras to X-Pro1. ...

  • @mapgraphs

Comparing JPEGs is meaningless as it only shows a manufacturers NR and sharpening algorithms. There is no cooked RAWs in Olympus or Nikon AFAIK, and DPR uses the same exact RAW default...

  • @peevee1 "It is APS-C 0.94x, meaning 0.63x to Oly 0.74x FF-equivalent".

Not that .11x matters much, especially when you are comparing an OVF to an EVF, but why is the Oly 0.74x FF equivalent...
