I am a Canon user. But I can't help but feeling that Dpreview just lost all the credibility with this silly review.

SergeyMS: Great camera. I compare it with my CCD medium format Phase One 40 Mp+ 645 body. Of course, medium format is better on low ISO, but the price difference! D800 is the best DSLR now. Fast enough, very big DR, best IQ. But who will buy it? Professional quality is still medium format. Non professionals don't need in so many pixels, and need in more compact size and weight.

Don't need it
Don't have money.
Only have Canon lens
but I want D800.

MediaDigitalVideo: Strange that DPreview is putting this non official Canon solution on. Does DPreview start showing any technical solution on problems with camera's now. Do we get more of this ? If so than I turn DPreview off.

"non official Canon solution"?

The picture you see is exactly what Canon did. And as a consumer, I need news like this.

Also depends on who did the taping job, amount of your light leak "prevention" may vary :)

A (tragic) Comedy show by Canon

Now that I look at the picture one more time

Looks like the tape will "melt" in extremely hot conditions.

Mssimo: They should just send us a roll of black tape.

Canon will make L version of the Tape and charge $750

brentbrent: The term "cover-up" as used in the headline to this story has a negative connotation, as in, for example, "Watergate cover-up." I think "fix" might be better, as it does not misleadingly convey that negative connotation that Canon is somehow trying to cover up a problem.

I'm not a Canon fanboy. That's just how I first interpreted the headline. If that negative connotation was recognized by DPR but used anyway in an attempt to be clever, bad judgment IMO.

"but used anyway in an attempt to be clever, bad judgment IMO."

So using the black tape and saying there is no problem is a good judgment? These days it's so amusing to see how far consumers will go to "protect" corporations.

We are not asking for free cameras. We pay for these. Not three dollars but $3500

I will never buy from Canon. Period.

Jokica: Canon, wake up!

Yes Canon is watching how other companies are producing the next generation sensors and their jaws are on the floor. Judging from their latest cameras they are still stuck in 2005.

You mean that prehistoric sensor technology with no DR ? Even FF Canon sensor is noisier in dark areas than this tiny M43 sensor.

They are too big to wake up. Sad reality.

Similar spec to 1Dx, why twice the price ?

Forget the image quality for now.
Korean users are finding what seems like a major design flaw with 5DIII.
Currently light leaks through the top LCD panel and it screws the metering sensor. Therefore if you shoot anything beside manual, your exposure will be incorrect. Test it for yourself and you'll see.

Dennishh: Looks no better than 5DMK2 can do. Just another incremental upgrade from Canon that's not worth the money. Jumping to Nikon or Sony.

I've been using Canon for about 10 years now. If you don't have any Canon lens why bother... Seriously...

What's with so many blown highlight @ ISO 100 ?

So is it really better than my 5Dc which came out about 7 years ago ?

Where is the richness in tone I am seeing from the competing product ?

Where is the realism in color I am seeing from the competing product ?
