On photo fiddler at work 2 in the Discussion Challenge III 'People or Animals' Portraits challenge (4 comments in total)

I agree with the lack of hands showing... a simple explanation, I had to crouch down past a circle of spectators to get the shot. I wanted the shallowest depth of field my camera would do (F3.5), and I had a 50 mm prime lens. So what you see is the uncropped photo.

Thanks for several comments regarding distracting background. I used Adobe Lightroom to make subtle changes. This was my first attempt at using LR 4 'adjustment brush' tool. I am not very satisfied with the results, but perhaps it is somewhat better than the original, which is still in my gallery as 'fiddler at work'.

Appreciate the input, all!

She seems definitely in the moment, concentrating on her music. The bow draws my eye up to her face. Concur with others that the background is distracting. Other than that, nice capture.

Very lovely capture, children are always a great subject and this one is no exception. Since you mentioned using prime lens, I would like to see it shot wide open, giving the background more blurry look. I found the people behind her bit distracting

Very nice. I like the way the lighting brings out the hair above the forehead. The two bright highlights either side of the women's head in the background is distracting. It draws my eyes away from the subject. If you could eliminate that in PP, that would greatly improve the image.

A good capture of concentration. A wider aperture would have helped to throw the background more out of focus - (I don't personally think that the definition of the people in the background assist in telling the story here).

Overall, quite good.
