jorepuusa: It´s great that professional photographers teach amateurs how to shoot. Then amateurs start taking pictures cheaply or pro bono and pros lose their jobs.
Pros go to schools, four years photography there and then they buy expensive gear and use money to get clients. And then some of them teach amateurs in web which causes the profession to collapse, that has happened all over and photography is a dying profession.

I have to disagree with one point. The word Professional means you make a living at what you do. You have to admit that there are many people out there calling them self a pro that if they tried to shoot with the big boys would get a reality check. The market HAS changed. mom-a razzi , digital cameras and social media all seem to have lowered the expectations of the common man as to what is good photography.I am handly with a camera and have a good eye but still have tons to learn along the technical side. If it wasn't for articles like these I would have no way of learning. I work full time and there are no schools nearby. Even adult education classes seem to revolve around ' how to use your new camera' So it's internet learning or give up...Thanks to pros who give us these tips and articles.

On National Park, After Dark* challenge (3 comments in total)

You do realize that in many National Parks it is illegal to be there after dusk without special permission? Many people may not so you might want to add that disclaimer to your challenge rule

In reply to:

TorsteinH: I could do quite a bit of PP in my Olympus E-5. Art Filters, cropping, multiexposures and different settings. All from RAW files.... According to the rules?

then doesn't that make it useless to say no PP? Can you tell if it was done in camera or out?

Wildbegonia: I can believe how popular this subject is for photographers. I live up up in the north and winter simple paralyses me and my camera.

You are missing some great opportunities! Now of course I am not sure how COLD it gets where you are :-) 20F is about my limit for shooting unless something really catches my eye, and even then I am not out long!

I like your composition, but the lighting is a little harsh.Maybe try dialing down the flash a little or shooting in natural light ? Keep posting!

" Show that kind of object, the WHOLE object, not a closeup macro."
It does amaze me howpeople do NOT read rules in so many of the challenges posted here..and I know there can be a language barrier but , read the rules!
On another note..some interesting items here!

I am still learning, but I would think an HDR image would be the exact opposite of this challenge? That gets rid of shadows and dark tones.

On Magazine cover: Horse challenge (4 comments in total)

Most magazine covers require title space and space on either the right or left for article titles. Any such rules for this challenge?

On Winter 2 challenge (7 comments in total)

It says taken in Winter..it says nothing about snow and ice..now yes OldPic is correct in saying that knocks out half the world..but for those of us in winter..as long as the exif fits the challenge announcement date guidelines..we could take a pic of a bare tree surrounded by dead grass ( or green like it has been up until about 3 days ago here)...

On Shoot Close Up For Impact! article (7 comments in total)

nice article for the beginner. Many times they ask "what zoom lens, I need to get closer to my kids playing in the yard"
The cheapest 'zoom' is your feet!! Fill the frame!
