BobFoster: Glass and that EVF is hideous to use for action and low light. The blanking and slow refresh at every shot and the graininess at low light was a show stopper for me. Cameras are systems and just measuring sensors doesn't mean you're going to get the shot. I preferred the image quality of the 5D mark III over the 7D II but the autofocus on the 7D II was fast and really good. Way better than the 5D in that regard for keepers. I'd like one (I rented for the weekend) but part of me is really tempted to wait for the 1DX refresh and just come up with the $.
Hear, hear well said - Thank you
grammieb14: I have a question for the Dpreview review staff. Why did the 70D get a gold award for a percentage rate 1pt lower than the 7D with a silver award. This is kind of confusing.
@ Simon great so what are the comparators here Nikon 7100 and ????I'm not saying this is better than the Nikon thats personal choice, but this camera isn't a Sony A6000 or a A7R, or a Fuji XT1 or a Canon 5D3 so PLEASE can we have real like for like comparisons.
Charlie boots: I wonder why when the D800E has a score of 82% and is rated gold. This camera has a score of 84% and is rated silver?
@ Barney, I get that but this being the case why don't the reviews line up then, how many other Semi-pro APS-C DSLRs have touch screen, wifi and focus peaking in a weather sealed body. You have to be consistent I agree so please be so.
Hilarious, we have a "Review" of a 4K camera and guess what....you can only watch it in HD!!!!!!!!
Some obvious omissions here notably Sony!!!Also mirror-less implies small light weight camera so how come there are two bricks as winners...oh because they've got 4K. Why is this site so wrapped up in 4k did the editor by a new TV!!!!4k is a marvellous feature like wifi, and gps but these aren't what make a camera good!
DP this has got to be the worse review EVER.
More of a question for DPRYou say in the First Impressions Review - "With the addition of the RGB metering sensor, the 7D Mark II inherits the 1D X's ability to link spot-metering to the AF point (with a 1.8% spot area). "Can you explain as I can't see any reference to a dynamic spot mode in the other stuff I've read.
For everyone else arguing about what's on or off - I think this is a great upgrade to a camera that has fought it's own for 5 years!! I'm certainly going to be having a long hard look at this to replace the old soldier and partner with my Canon 5D3 and Fuji XT1
Phenomenal!!! Any chance we can get some RAW samples posted?
A bit cruel but does anyone think the G2 X might allow EFS or EF lenses to be attached? ;o))
If only this had a remote then it would be brilliant!
I have an S90 which is always in my pocket and nicely compliments my 7D & 5D2. Look forward to playing with this to see if I'll upgrade (once the price has dropped a bit) but it would have been a no brainer if it had a remote...Please Canon on the S110!
