It should be mentioned, if you plan to leave the printer unused for weeks on end (say 2+) at one go, clogging of print heads could be a consideration, especially on Epson’s. I have a 4900 with all 11 colors clogged. Printer-based cleanings aren't going to fix it this time. In the service manual for the 4900, it recommends service techs tell consumers to run an auto-clean every week.
A new head is $1200 and I have to drive it to a service center 3 hours by car away; a new printer is $1700 at my door. I love having a pro-grade printer at home, but the maintenance costs are never talked about…they should be as they can be very high! I have a local camera and print shop here in Austin. I may just use their services instead of repairing/replacing this 4900.
I encourage Amadou to add a section about Maintenance and Cost of ownership. This goes far beyond buying new ink(s).
