Opinion: Purchased November 2006, a fully featured entry level DSLR at a good price at that time. Expect some great colours straight out of this cam.

My main reason for choosing Sony was the Konica Minolta legacy of economical A-mount lenses.

I still have the a100 3 years later and must say that I am still generally very pleased with the IQ it produces. Mainly used as a back-up or occasionally to carry a ready-to-shoot 3rd lens for my Sony DSLR system.

The a700 with V4 firmware kept me with the Sony system, and the a900 FF continues to do that for me for now.

Problems: Not a high ISO DSLR - this DSLR could definitely have benefited from better IQ performance over 400 ISO.

The shutter noise is a bit 'clunky'.

Opinion: A rugged FF DSLR that delivers great performance and thankfully not a lot of $'s when compared to other brand FF DSLR's.

Intuititive and easy to use. The minolta A mount lens legacy is a real bonus for getting hold of economical quality lenses for this baby.

Even though some complain about high ISO performance, I find that 99% of my shots are @ 800 ISO or less, so this is not a real life issue; for me anyway.

Opinion: Upgraded from a100 to the a700 in June 2008. V4 firmware upgrade late last year has helped make this DSLR a gem. Compatability with Konica Minolta lenses, in camera stabilisation, heaps of PRO features and intuitive user interface also make the a700 great value for money. The optional vertical grip is great! Very happy indeed!

Problems: Initially the a700 was too noisy in low light using 400+ ISO settings but V4 firmware has fixed this.
