Congrats.  I would look at the 70-300L or 100-400L instead when the time comes.  There is not much difference between 135 and 200.
  • The 70-200/4 IS, 70-300L and 70-200/2.8 II are all very sharp but most consider the II the sharpest.  I'm guessing you weren't making a fair comparison.
  • I think he was talking about the 70-200/4 non IS and the IS version is slightly sharper.  The difference in IQ between the 70-300L and 70-200/4 IS is indistinguishable when looking at an entire ...
  • IS is basically a forced de-centering of the lens.  If you shot those hand held with IS on, I would test again using a tripod with IS off just to eliminate that as a possibility, but it does look ...
  • Why on earth are you trying to do lens tests on a subject like that?  How many lens reviews have you read where the test was done on 'big azz bush'?  Shoot a flat subject at least like a brick ...
  • Concidering I have shot astro in CO with a 2.8 lens and a 7D with pretty good results, your 6D is cleaner at ISO 12.8K than my 7D at 6400 so f4 should be pretty good.  However I think the Samyang ...
  • The Sigma 17-50 is excellent but if you decide to go with one the STM kit lenses for video, I would skip the 17-50 and 50/1.4 and go with a Sigma 18-35/1.8 in their place since you have IS covered ...
  • If you weren't satisfied with the IQ of the 70-200/2.8 II something was either wrong or you aren't going to be impressed with pretty much any other lens in EF mount third party or Canon.  The ...
  • If it was EFS, they would have to cut the price down to at least 1/3rd.  A 11-24/2.8 would essentially be equivalent to a 17-40/4 on FF so it wouldn't be any where as near big of an achievement ...

Yes investment is probably a bad choice of words there. I was more trying to say it doesn't make sence to buy the 17-40 in order to try to save money or time in reselling a crop lens for when the ...
  • I have and love the 17-50 OS, but if you are seriously thinking about getting into wedding photography, I would as a minimum get the 18-35/1.8 instead.  Or better yet, start planning a full frame kit.
  • Unless you have a spaceship, there is only one perspective you are going to get of the Milky Way. OP check out lonely speck.  He has a great website on Milky Way photography and speaks high of the ...
  • I say buy the 70-200/4 IS now and save for the 135/2 next, or just sit on it and save for the 70-200/2.8 IS II.

The 17-40 doesn't make sence on crop when the Tamron 17-50/2.8 non VC and Sigma 17-50 OS are both faster and have more range for less.  The 15-85 is not slower in the 17-40 range and is wider, ...
  • This is exactly why I was suggesting to get a fast prime.  This is such an d camera but it can still do one thing a 4/3rds system can't: shallow DOF.  If you frame loosely you can still get the ...
  • F2 zooms on MFT are only f4 equivalent on FF.  Buy yourself a nice cheap prime like a 35/2, 50/1.8 or even a 40/2.8 so you can more differentiate this from your MFT system.
  • I could see buying if you are using FF but on crop the Sigma 17-50 is about the same price.  It's pretty comparable in IQ at 24mm and knocks the socks off the prime at 17-23 and 25-50mm.

With our 3rd, we were at the hospital for 22 hours including labor.  The others were longer.  A lot depends on what time the baby comes along. i would just bring the 24 and 50.
  • It will work but the AF is going to be an issue keeping up there.  The Canon 70-200/4 non IS for about the same will AF much faster and give you many more keepers even while giving up a stop of light.
  • It's an OK lens there is also the 28-105/3.5-4.5 for cheap.  Honestly I would buy a 17-40.  Yes it's wider, but 17-40 is wider and longer than than 20.  The 24-85 isn't going to be as wide as 20 ...
