Epson UK announces SC-P400, the smallest and lightest A3+ pigment printer on the market

Epson UK has announced a further model to the SC range of A3+ printers with the SC-P400, a printer it claims is smaller and lighter than any other A3+ pigment inkjet machine. Although no pricing has been released, the new model is said to be part of an 'affordable' package that includes the lowest cost pigment ink-set on the market. Read more

Tamron relaunches SP series with 35mm F1.8 Di VC USD and SP 45mm F1.8 Di VC USD

Updated Japanese lens manufacturer Tamron has announced it has revamped its SP lens range, starting with the SP 35mm F1.8 Di VC USD and the SP 45mm F1.8 Di VC USD. As a company that usually produces zoom lenses it's surprising to see the first two SP models are fixed focal lengths primes, boasting new design values inside and out according to Tamron. NASA employs 150-year-old photography technique to measure shock waves from supersonic flight

NASA has turned to a process devised in 1864 to help it measure shockwaves created by supersonic aircraft flight. The method, schlieren photography, was invented by German scientist August Toepler to observe the effect of objects moving through transparent media, such as water or air. Read more

Palette's Cube sampler allows photographers to accurately match color

Australian company Palette has announced a sampling device that can read the color of items it is placed on, allowing photographers to match the exact chromatic values when processing images in Photoshop. Read more

Hands-on: Leica claims fastest in the world for its new CMOS S (Type 007)

Originally announced last September, Leica's medium format S camera presents a number of key changes that bring it up to date with the latest models from its main competitors. Although the S Type 007 retains the same pixel-count as the previous Type 006, the company has switched from its traditional CCD sensor to a CMOS unit. MIT proposes new approach to HDR with 'Modulo' camera

Researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology have come up with a theory for a new way to solve the issue of bright skies burning out in a landscape photograph. Using what they call Unbounded High Dynamic Range photography they are working on the idea of pixels that reset themselves once they have reached their capacity for recording light so that they can carry on recording - and resetting if necessary. Gitzo updates Traveler range with stronger legs and new locks

Premium tripod manufacturer Gitzo has released updates to its well-known Traveler range of carbon fiber tripods. The company has introduced its Carbon eXact carbon fiber tubing to the range, which it claims makes the legs stronger. Read more

Canon sweeps DSLR categories as EISA announces awards for cameras and lenses

Canon has taken the main DSLR awards for the best products of the year as voted by the prestigious European Imaging and Sound Association. The EOS 7D Mark ll won 'European Prosumer DSLR Camera' while the EOS 5DS/5DS R won the award for 'European Professional DSLR Camera'. Read more

Samyang introduces new Xeen pro video lens series with interchangeable mounts

Korean lens brand Samyang has announced a new series of video lenses under the Xeen name. They feature wide apertures and resolution that the company says is aimed at users who shoot 4K and above footage.
