About me:

Bought a Sony HX5V, my first digital camera. Now I'm trying to find out, if this camera is any good :-) Until now, I'm having difficulties with - video sound quality, pictures sharpness/noise (much noise in photos, and missing sharpness)

Moef's recent activity

  • The EPL3 photo looks best in my eyes :) Has more depth, and isn't overexposed like the RX100 photo. On distance, the HX50 photo looks ok, but as we know, if has a lot of dirty looking noise/grain...
  • Zoom war it is. And it's like, as long as you have a huge zoom + tons of unimportant features like WiFI, 3D, GPS, Panorama photos... then everything is fine, the consumer is happy happy happy. At...
  • Pretty good bird photo. I'm not too crazy about the noise in the picture, at ISO 800. but I do understand that you had to hurry :) If more time, I would have slowed down the shutter a little bit,...
  • Replied in Sony HX-50V
Yes, a little strange with the auto mode in pure sunlight. Should be easy for the cam, to pick some really good settings. But if it sets the shutter too long, it gets a bit strange?! If you set the...
  • Replied in Sony HX-50V
Just looked at the other pics you've posted. And they look stunning!! :) I think the P-mode, and raising the shutter speed in between 1/100 - 1/400 has made it's wonders on your pics. And your pics...
  • Replied in Sony HX-50V
I think one of your problems is the shutter speed, which is set pretty low in your examples. This could be the cause of the fussy & blurred pics, because of handshake. ISO 800 shouldn't be...
  • Overall great shots, in terms of sharpness, noise. But I don't like the colours, which to me looks vivid over-saturated unnatural. But other than this, they're good. Maybe it's the post processing...
  • For so high ISO values, I think your photos are very very good. I've read, that the superior auto mode tends to pick very high ISO values automatically. So this may not be the best indoor...
  • I once bought a HX5V, which got dust in lens after a week. I returned the camera, and got my money back. I wasn't satisfied with the HX5V indoor/low light performance. I think the later superzoom...
  • Beautiful shots. I love the vibrant, vivid colours of these flower photos. And even 100%, they look good. You can see side effects of the little sensor at 100%, but they're still looking very very...
  • Really nice night shots. Lots of detail, and low noise. Are these photos post processed in any way? I'm still impressed if they are :-)
  • Great shot of your cat. I even tried to look at the photo at 100% zoom, where the photo still has lots of detail in it. And at ISO 800 + optical zoom, is good.
  • Thanks MarioV for the lovely shots. I like, that you in fact say you've post processed the photos. This doesn't make the photos any worse for me, now that I know they're processed. They're still...
  • The colours looks very bad and overblown unnatural. I liked them better before PP. -------Moef
  • I hope I don't offend anybody by saying, that the PQ isn't up where I thought it would be. It's like the cam doesn't produce serious good photo contrast and depth, with less smear & noise, unless...
  • As the other are saying, that's pretty good. I saw that the ISO values was 1000 & 1600 + you say that it was indoor, low light conditions + clear zoom. So that's all looking good :) -------Moef
  • Yep, you're right Lotzi. This is the thread I couldn't find, thanks :-) Yes, my mood changed a bit when I saw the pale, blurred.. for me.. cheap looking pictures. I will check up on the photo you...
  • There is just the Canon battery problem, when recording video. That's a fundamental problem for me, that overrule everything else. I have to check up on some SX280 reviews, curious about the...
  • I don't mind the size of the HX50V. It just could have been so much better, if Sony has decided to keep the 20x zoom, and put a bigger sensor in the cam. Maybe a sensor size as from the Canon S110...
  • The bird shot is very good indeed. I just hope, that it isn't post processed in any way, as it spoils the fun :) -------Moef
