Seems a pretty decent camera. But I think that 100% crop images are very soft and grainy (reminded my old S100), not much detail as I hoped for a camera with this sensor. RX100 is smaller, cheaper and has better 100% crop details, and more mega pixels to crop the image.Even with the crappy image from the studio scene from dpreview, I bought a RX100. Not one of my shots are like the studio scenes, real life pictures are much much better. I was thinking of buying a GXmkII, but now I`ve changed my mind.
Another great inovation!
The 1" sensor killed the 1/1.7"...
I love the IQ/Pocketability of the 1" sensor cameras.
Seems like a great camera, maybe not for everyone.
I love the idea of the evf bundled. I prefer a slim camera with an optional evf, than a chuncky one with a evf built in.
I will wait for the reviews and for the price to drop, everyone knows they will eventually, I dont understand why always this whinning.
bzanchet: Canon g1xII, fuji xm1 or olympus em10? Hard to decide! I have a sony rx100 and I am considering to replace it.
Judging by your picture, your flowers and birds pictures must be very exciting!
topstuff: Image Quality is not fantastic. Seems on a par with my RX100.
I do not think it really matters here.
I think I will buy one, if only because of G.A.S.
Shame about the 30p video though.
B1ackhat I agree with you! IMO Canon has the best colors output, thats why I am interested on the G1xii. The Oly colors of the EM10 does not seem a big upgrade from the RX100.
IQ is the same as RX100 (I also have both), I prefer the portability of the Sony. Imagine going to a party with a Olympus on your neck.
I need an all around lens (bright, wide angle, 3x zoom). Portability is essential. I think I will stick with my RX100, the images looks better tahn EM10. The studio test of the RX100 was not done right. I use my camera for travel, skiing, karting, partying. I dont need all kind of lenses (and I think unless you are a pro you dont need too).

bzanchet: Dear DPReview, could you tell me if it shoots at 16:9 aspect ratio? If it does, what would the resolution be?
Dear Samuel thank you very much!! I only shoot at 16:9 to view on my monitor! The resolution will be perfect for my 4K 3840 x 2160 16:9 TV. 12MP is just enough for me!
bzanchet: Very nice... A little late to the party...Canon will probably have the 4K video up to 2025.
I have a wonderful 4k Sony TV that I use as monitor, I have a Denon AVR-X2000 with 4K, Netflix is just about to start streaming in 4K... it is just that I am hoping for a compact 4K for the near future! Late to the party the RX100 created 2 years ago, small, fast portable, big sensor câmera IMHO.Canon lately has taken a lot of time to upgrade their line with major diferences or inovation as Sony.

Naveed Akhtar: finally one good camera .. from canon as well!!
I totally agree with you!! I think that the 180 tiltable lcd is much more useful than the ovf.I am not sure if I will trade my RX100, which is much smaller...
Dear DPReview, could you tell me if it shoots at 16:9 aspect ratio? If it does, what would the resolution be?
Very nice camera indeed, although RX100 seems to be a bit sharper and less noise, even with the smaller sensor. The article does not mention, but the GM1 probably has a lens cap. I prefer the RX100 as a real pockatable camera.
Very nice camera! Looks very promissing, too bad it misses all the gorgeous retro looking...
Very very impressed!! My first impressions:1. A side by side with the Sony Nex 3N would have been nice2. Looks like a copy from Fuji XF13. I wonder if Leica will make a version of this camera?4. My RX100 hardly fits in my pocket, looking at both cameras from the top, the GM1 wont fit... I am quite satisfied with the 1"sensor, I dont think there will be a dramatic improvement from the GM1 to the RX100 to justify a change for me. Also, the f1.8 lens with zoom makes up to the smaller sensor, IMO.5. The camera is gorgeous, what a feat of engeneering! I think the price is up with the competition (RX 100II), still not cheap.
100% crop images are too noisy, too close to the new gen of smartphones cameras...
I wish Sony RX100 have the colors of this Canon! Would be great to combine the sharpness and low light ability of the RX100 with the color on the Canon S series!
Excelent work DPReview!I am very happy to see the RX-100 II slightly better than the m4/3s up to ISO 400! The best pocketable camera ever!
No-RAW Sony cameras have much better jpegs colours than RX-100 IMO. I am amazed that I need to "fix" the images on a $650 camera...Hope for a firmware update soon, or for the next gen of Canon and Olympus cameras with a sensor equivalent to the RX100.
