Too bad they didnt release a firmware update... I love my RX100, but it has a much less pleasant skin tones on jpeg than my old Canon S100 and my Olympus E-PM2. It is great for landscape, not so much for people pictures.A 180º tilting lcd would have been so great for self pics, too bad!I wonder if the zoom while video remains so much slow...Except for this minor glitches, it is still the best pocket camera available, but for the amateur photographer, doesnt Worth the upgrade for the RX100 II IMO.
No hot shoe? Lol, just kidding... nice review, beautiful Canon colors, sprecially the skin tones. What place was the fotos taken?
Cool!! Although I would prefer a 5x zoom for a slimmer body... the future is here! Bye bye small sensor compact câmeras, this market is ending.
rb59020: No thanks, Samsung blew it! Should have been at least APSC, full frame would have been better! The 10X zoom is ok, but should have been a constant f1.4. I hate it when the aperture changes when I zoom! And what's with the crappy 4fps? The D4 does 10fps! What was Samsung thinking?
No hot shoe? OMG!!!!!! I think I'll faint!!
joe1512: Looks pretty nice. Keep in mind that this is the ONLY phone with a real optical zoom camera that I am aware of.
It should be compared to existing travel zooms. Saying stuff like "it should have 10x zoom with 1.4 aperature" is just retarded, as is "OMG I want full frame!!".
With a standard sized sensor fortravel zooms, its IQ should be comparable to cameras such as the SX260 and the like. Not amazing but better than the average cell phone due to autofocus and slightly bigger sensor (vs the 1/3.2ish used in many cell phone cameras), plus better lens.
They aren't gonna make a phone with a bigger sensor for quite a while. They can barely cram a 1 inch sensor into a compact such as teh RX100. They certainly can't make it smaller AND shove phone guts into that smaller space.
This should fill a niche quite nicely and let people get rid of these ridiculous zoom-lens attachments you are supposed to carry around with your phone.
Very appropriate posting, congrats my friend!
I would like to see some dpreview users holding a Nikon D4 with phone capability on the ear lol.
Wow I really liked it! Nice colors, cris and low noise, much better than some samples from others web sites, maybe the photographer is better lol...
I already have the RX-100, I think that for me it is not worth to have the MX-1 as a second camera or to replace mine...
I believe that a larger sensor would fit as the camera is chunkier than the RX-100, although I dont think that they could keep such a fast lens...
Nevertheless this camera offers a lot for the price, although a $350 price would really help Pentax to speed it sales against LX7, G15 and XZ-2!
Hope the new processor and 1080/60p vídeo comes in the sucessor of S110!
sailorboy414: I have P300 and I am super happy with it. I didn't think P310 was an upgrade so I was waiting and waiting for this camera... but the lens kind of disappoints. Here is here dilemma.. this or the new Oly XZ-10. Oly has a smaller sensor, but a much better lens, focus/function ring and a touch screen. Same price. Which to get? Any opinions?
I too have the same dilemma... Tottally agree with user technic, the S100 takes too long to process, lets see what the P330 would do!
Arn: I can't see much point in this. Almost exactly the same camera as the Canon S110 which was introduced in 9/2012... Just in Nikon brand. S110 already has similarly specced lens, similar size and RAW capture.
Canon S100/S110 has some major focus issues, I will buy this Nikon and replace my Canon S100 as my pocket camera... or maybe the Olympus XZ-10, after reading some reviews...
Looks like my next pocket camera!
I think it`s a shame, at the studio comparison tool, the IQ is one of the best I have ever seen. There is no need to complaint about the design, just buy something else, IMO I think it could bring some new ideas to the manufacturers... They are so short minded nowadays that all we see is some vintage designs coming back, where is the creativity?
bzanchet: Should be very compact with a pancake lens attached! I wonder if the IQ would be much better than RX-100 to justify carrying a bigger camera, especially at low iso.
Hey Chad thanks for replying, I appreciate your advices!!! As I live in Sao Paulo, I rarelly wear coats so pocketability is essential to me... I`m very happy with the RX-100, although sometimes, with no flash and high iso, I see too much noise, but overall the pros far exceds the cons!
Thanks for your reply Chad!
But do you think that yours Nex-C3 provides a IQ so much better than the rx-100 that justify carrying a non pocketable camera? I`m not a pro, just like to that quality pics on my travels...

Great first impressions! I'm really looking forward for this camera, it should be a great 2nd camera for me, specially for the size (who carries a DSLR for a party concerned about DOF?), lenses and Olympus Jpegs. Even with the smaller sensor, I believe it will be better than Canon S100, like the Pentax Q.
bzanchet: Benn using the RX-100 for 2 months, I.Q. is really impressive, the video performance is the best I've seen, but the pictures' colors are so cold and dark on auto mode. I could see a huge difference in this test with the real world samples against the other competitors, the Sony is the only one with a wierd color. On P mode and after a extensive research I manage to make it a little better, but still misses warmth and live. I hate post processing, so JPEG are essential to me. But my wife thinks is really boring to wait for me to find the perfect setup for each photo...I had a S100 but exchange due lens error and the 24fps video (terrible without tripod), but the pictures colors were nicer than RX-100. Size is also essential to me so the Fuji XF1 maybe could be the last option for me, but the powering system is too anyoyng...Maybe next year the perfect camera for me might show up :)
Mr. Butler I`m flattered to receive a reply from you thank you very much!! I'll try it tomorrow and post the results. I'm also using the contrast -1 or -2, it really improved the dark images... still I could not find the ideal setup for the creative style, on standard the colors seems dull, portrait is amazing for self pics and landscape is also very good for distance pics, but it's a bit anoyng to change this setting every time ;) I have had a lot of camers in the past years since I can sell them in Brazil for twice the price, and I know it may sound stupid, but the best camera I have ever had till know is an old Sony DSC-N1 (excpt of course the limitations like 35mm wide, slow lens and and bad video), it is the best 100% crop I have ever seen, the sensor is a CCD 1/1.7... just a thought I'd like to share!

Raymoendo: Damn! I just bought my S100... But I will still buy this camera next month! It's just what I was waiting for.. For a looonnngg time!Nex or G1X camera's are just to big in my opinion... This camera has it all... Small body, Fairly big sensor, fast lens.. Thumbs up for Sony!I'm gonna sell my S100 for it!
I'm with you Ray, bye bye S100!
Still amazed by this little camera... bravo Sony!
And still laughing at the no hot shoe concerns, an external flah will be bigger than the camera, ridiculous hahaha... c'mon you guys, that's not this camera target...
Oh and the 20mp sure to be worth every pixel, I have a nex-7 and it is really pleasant to zoom my photos at my 40 inch led monitor... also, I can crop my ski and go kart pics and no noise or iq loss...
Sony I missed you!
