Commented on Grizzly Bear tests limits of rented lens insurance cover news story
This is the kind of PR that LensRentals can only dream of! Well worth the cost of replacing the destroyed gear. Saavy Roger will no doubt feature evidence of the remains on his site!

Commented on Flickr 'liquid' design finally brings window-sized images news story
Next up: use a REAL map interface for our geotagged images; Bing and Google make Yahoo's maps look like a joke.

Commented on App Review: CameraBag 2 article
Film vs digital aside, am I the only stick-in-the-mud who's already tiredtof these pseudo-vintage-film effects, ie. trying to emulate a "19th-Century pinhole camera with a scratchy lens"?

Great, another raft of expensive colorimetric tools and software likely to be end-of-lifed...

Commented on Apple Raw Compatibility Update v3.10 adds eight more cameras news story
"Digital Camera Raw Compatibility Update 3.10" appeared for me when I ran Software Update under 10.6.8.

Commented on Apple Raw Compatibility Update v3.10 adds eight more cameras news story
Hallelujah, finally we have RAW support for our FZ35/38's! The workflow for using these raw formats within Aperture was so cumbersome I finally gave up and went back to shooting JPEGs. Now I'm...

Commented on Apple Raw Compatibility Update v3.10 adds eight more cameras news story
In what sense does Apple/Aperture not support DNG? Adobe's DNG tool won't convert some camera raw formats but I've had no problem bringing DNG files into Aperture.

Commented on Wireless LAN standardized for SD cards news story
Does this support or preempt the protocols already being used by Eye-Fi? I was kind of hoping to see SD wireless standardization around Bluetooth (eg, for geotagging as well as file transfer) but...

Commented on Adobe offers CS6 upgrade for CS3 and CS4 users, and rebrands Carousel news story
Re dropping "Carousel": think they were being threatened by Kodak?

Commented on preview
Too bad no manual zoom ring on the lens - that thing is sticking out all the time, and there are no controls on it? So sick of motorized zooms... And what's with no filter threads on the barrel? ...

Commented on Fujifilm reveals HS30EXR 30x CMOS superzoom with Raw news story
That IS tempting, coming from an FZ35 myself. I really never know what I got through the EVF until I review it on the computer, and in fact I think I miss alot of shots because the view through...

Commented on Fujifilm reveals HS30EXR 30x CMOS superzoom with Raw news story
Agreed - I think they overdo it on the long end of these supezooms. Would prefer to see them push the envelope at the wide end of the range.

Commented on Leica Announces V-Lux 3 superzoom news story
Unless they emit "FZ150" in the EXIF data then RAW support is going to be broken in the MacOS at least until the next RawCamera update. An example of "rebranding" biting back.

Commented on First Impressions: Using the Canon PowerShot S100 article
Bravo to Canon for even including GPS - and the logging capability is a nice "customer delight" feature. I hope more manufacturers start considering GPS a "standard" feature in travel-centric...

Commented on Fujifilm unveils X-S1 high-end superzoom and confirms Mirrorless intentions news story
Encouraging to see there's a manual control ring - assignable? - on the lens barrel. Motorized-only zooms are one of my pet peeves about these super-zoom cameras.

Commented on Fujifilm unveils X-S1 high-end superzoom and confirms Mirrorless intentions news story
I gotta be able to use it like my FZ35. Much bigger or heavier is a no-go - otherwise I just bring my DSLR.

Commented on Fujifilm unveils X-S1 high-end superzoom and confirms Mirrorless intentions news story
Back photo, courtesy DC Watch: http://dc.watch.impress.co.jp/img/dcw/docs/481/838/42.jpg I'd say that's veritably "bristling" with controls. Wish I had a better sense of the size.

Commented on Fujifilm unveils X-S1 high-end superzoom and confirms Mirrorless intentions news story
Specs! Specs? And if this is EVF only what's that big honkin' prism-shaped thing on the top? Not sure that's going to fit in my handlebar bag.

Replied in Studio Comparison Shot, HX100V/FZ150
What a shame - I want the Sony so bad for the feature set (zoom ring, GPS and panorama) but the obviously inferior PQ compared to the FZ150 - even compared to older-gen FZ35 - is a deal killer. ...

Commented on Toshiba announces its first WiFi SDHC card news story
When is someone going to put Bluetooth plus some smarts in an SD card so it can talk to my GPS unit and geotag my images? BT is even less power-hungry than WiFi. That's something I could get...
