On Hands on with the Pentax 645Z article (660 comments in total)

The shape and size of this camera might scare people off. But I hold a 645D (the first generation) before and the ergonomics is good, well balanced, just like all PENTAX camera.

Hold one before you complaint about the size. :)

I have an explanation why north American mirrorless market is weak: all those burgers make our hand so fat we can't press one button on mirrorless without touching other buttons... the camera is too small for our fat fingers and hands.

“My first priority is to make sure that the business continues to develop as a going concern, to protect our employees. We don’t need to grow enormously, we just need a slight growth to continue the business. Assuming we're doing OK, I’d like to do something amazing. Something to make customers say ‘wow’. That’s my real motivation. I’d rather do that than make our company bigger. ”

I'm impressed with this statement.

I want to buy the 18-35, but still not available in Pentax K-mount. This will be my first non-Pentax lens.

Dimit: My initial impression is that it's the best compact system camera by far FOR THE MONEY!
All nex 6 needed was fast AFand got it! And when SONY disclose fastest AF ever,it's true because this statement is UNDER CIPA PROTOCOL.
When DPR states to get it ''with a grain of salt'' they forget that CIPA accounts for VARIOUS autofocusing coditions.
I fancy DPR blogs as they are crowded and listen to various comments but the opinions of the reviewers are overrated as they seem to be underexperienced photographers-at least from what I can say by looking at their sample images over and over again.
My opinion is that the DPR staff should avoid comments that are non identifiable by just looking at the initial photo and specs of a firstly launched camera. This is what they apparently did today, isn't it?
Let's see what their technical review will be AFTER they have the camera in hands.
Regards..

It's just that CaNikon pay them more.... ;-)

KL Matt: This lens is drop-dead gorgeous. But if its release means that 20mm f/2.8 is as fast and wide as it's going to get in Penatax APS-C-land for the foreseeable future, I'm crushed!
Ricoh, say it ain't so! Give us our DA* 17mm f/2 already, we know you can do it! Or: if you're going full frame, then a DFA* 24mm f/2. Pretty please?

Looking at the pricing of new lenses from Ricoh, it is probably better to buy a used FA*24 f2 at around $600-$700.

I guess most ppl here have no clue that there are many sudden-rich ppl in the east that have no idea about camera but as long as the camera is named Leica, or in this case Hasselblad, they will buy it without a blink. For them, is a show of status, not taking pictures.

Simply said, you are not their targeted customer. :P

It would be awesome if I can use it as a phone as well. Imagine someone calling you when you are taking long exposure shot and you forgot to turn off vibration... :D

Mark B.: I was curious until I saw this:
•MicroSD card slot supports up to 64GB

I don't even like SD cards because of the small size. Sure hope this won't be the future of DSLRs.

It will be the future because of it's small size. :D
or you are talking about micro SD card?

CameraLabTester: In trying to be "different" from the rest of the homogeneous running field, Pentax has strayed into Pikachu territory, thereby risking it's chances of even being in healthy competition with the rest of the pack...

.

still one of those who thinks camera should be black and only black? come on~ if you are PENTAXIAN, you already don't care what people think of what camera you are using (else you will be buying CaNikon already), then why is PENTAX offering colors DSLR bothering you?

they already exhibit this camera in last year Photokina, though this is a smaller version of that. So this is not new.

reading all the negative comments, people have really no idea this thing will be a hit in Japan with all the Anime fans. Or put it in words you might understand: You are not the targeted buyers for these cameras!

nice lens, very good looking lens.

Absolutic: Pentax just need some big company with deep pockets to buy them. Not sure how long they can survive on their own. Sony or somebody else, buy them already.

You have no idea Ricoh is a bigger company than Sony do you? :D

and I thought the Pentax K-01 is the ugliest camera... that title is now officially being take over by this Hassy.

Italian should forever be banned to design camera after this. :D

This technology will eventually integrate into future camera phones. If they license it to cell phone company instead of creating a whole camera they will survive. I can also see this technology be useful if it somehow manage to transfer the tech with existing small video cam, like the gopro.

This is the true replacement for K200D, and a replacement I have been waiting for. While I already have a K5, I still lust for this K30.

I think Pentax pack in more features from the K5 to this body (and a whole upgrade from K200D). At the same time removed top LCD and metal body that is available in the K200D, to justify the cost. Pentax has two unique features that I think they should continue: WR and dual batteries options in dSLR. I do think they should have a vertical battery holder for this camera like the K200D.

Except the bottle opener design (looks like Nikon) of the flash housing, I really like the design. A solid proof that Pentax own camera designers are great! Can't wait what K5 replacement will be!
