Old-fashioned small notebook so that you can write notes on where you took photographs. This is useful for filling out the EXIF fields later.

@Plevy, £5000 for a lens is approximately the monthly salary for a mid-career professional in the United States. So the cost of a Leica lens is about the same as it was decades ago if you account...

I think the point is that inexpensive adapters may have wide manufacturing tolerances. You may have a real good example, but another one of the same brand may be worse. Presumably the expensive...

Do you you remember the superb 35 mm Pentax LX? The finder was removable, and a 45 degree unit was available, similar to the Rollei 45 deg. finder. I won't call it unique, but do not recall ever...

Excellent points. I had one of the Rollei prism finders, and it made the view brilliantly bright. But as you say, it was a heavy package, so I usually only took the prism when I was on a car...

"about as confusing as using a TLR". Poor guy - he must have never learned photography the old fashioned way. I wonder if he also finds f-stops and all that sensitometry/exposure stuff confusing?

In what situation would you use a leaf shutter? The only case I can think of is flash synchronization. Decades ago, Leica equipped some lenses with leaf shutters for this express reason.

Everything you wrote is correct. But you are back to the technical mumbo jumbo that Joe and Jane Suburban really don't care about (except possibly for "megapixels," whatever those are). Joe and...

Everything Thom wrote is logical for photography enthusiasts. But as for the mass market in USA, Joe and Jane Suburban:
1. Know the two big names, Canon and Nikon.
2. Seldom see 4/3 cameras in...

I think you missed the point. The main reason many "pros" (and American amateurs) want the big SLR-looking outfits is the bulky tough, massive, black, "I'm a pro and I'm serious" look.

The G3 is the smallest of the group, so if you want a compact camera with eye-level viewfinder, the G3 may be your best choice. But pick it up in person in case you find it too small. Also, I am...

I just returned home from Italy, where I saw many trendy young ladies wearing huge aviator sunglasses. That is the in look for skinny women.--The Kodachromeguy

Try Photo Ninja. But note they do not support Fuji as far as I know.

Leica always offered several versions of the 50 mm for both their rangefinder cameras and their reflex models. For awhile in the early 1970s, you could buy for the M rangefinder the 50 f/3.5 red...

Ben,suburban America doesn't care if the Canon system is big and bulky. In fact, most prefer it that way because it bestows a certain "seriousness" or "professionalism" to their photography.

For the normal US buyer (not photography enthusiast), price is the major factor plus:
1. Convenience (= pick up at the big box store = Canon or Nikon).
2. Buy a similar product as the other...

I agree, very odd. Where is this going or why?

Update: I forgot to write that I am very cautious of using PayPal. ePrey makes you use it now, compared to the past when you could request a check from a seller. I am dubious if you really have...

I really like the square format. I learned to think in square terms by using a Rolleiflex for 25 years. I know I can crop a file anytime, but having the square view in the viewfinder gives me a...

I agree with the other guys that eBay works well for selling small, high value items like cameras or lenses. The big advantage is that you have an audience of millions of viewers. Someone out there...
