The Squire: Recently on DPR, there's been a lot of non-stories about the Lumia (that dumb advert 'showing how a sensor works') and stories like this that are, you know, ok, but have a whopping great picture of a Lumia in the title when the device is actually irrelevant to the story. Is this a product placement thing? Are these sponsored articles?

P.S. For some reason I really want a Lumia.

Nokia is trying Apple way. Product placement in cool places with cool people for masses.

Pavel Sokolov: Where is GPS/GLONASS??? Wtf guys? I don't want to search for an actual locations where I took the photos.

monodrift, it will be ok, but I'm from Russia. Not a first world at all. Don't be stupid. Smartphones tag every photo and it's cool. Camera can mark photos, there is no problem with antenna (it can be external regarding magnesium body) and no problem with battery, gps can be easily turned off. GPS is only a low power receiver - not a power hungry device. So relax, there should be GPS/GLONASS. I use my nokia with my PEN only because that - GPS coordinates.

kimvette: If this were an Android phone instead of Windows, an SD slot and 64 MB internal storage and a screen comparable to Samsung's S4, I'd consider it.

No, android market is tight and profitable only for a few companies. Generally for Samsung only (and Google). There is no space for Nokia.

solarsky: Finally a SERIOUS dedicated close-up camera without interpolation sensor. Sigma certainly have it all covered now with their DP1M, DP2M and now DP3M. It'd be great if they offered the whole bunch of them in a bundle (kind of like the Fuji X100 Black Limited Edition with all the necessary extras) at a slightly lower total price as to having to buy all the stuff separately.

Imagine carrying all of them, like the Japan tourists. It's crazy ;)

In reply to:

jj74e: why canon came out with 10 new compacts this year is beyond me.

seriously, are they even making any money off these? it's like they're stuck in the cycle or clutching to the past.

just cause you make a camera smaller doesn't mean people are going to want to carry it around.

bigger sensors and zoom are the right decision- image quality is the only reason anybody's going to still buy a compact alongside a smartphone, along with the ability to zoom farther. smartphones have everything else and do it better (stupid scene modes vs actual apps? 3g connection w/out having to pay for an extra device?).

what companies need to figure out is how to advertise this information to consumers so they become educated about what's important and what's not.

You're really don't know how many regular people in the world who don't even know about quality or something else. Sister of my wife, just purchased a piece of crap(camera) after the cool compact that I bought to them(broken now). He is Ph.D (economics).

toomanycanons: I've never used ACDSee. Anyone want to comment on this update as opposed to, say, Lightroom 4 or CS5/6, if they're even comparable.

2ZAnton - 10th isn't better. I'm stopped with 10 version. It hangs sometimes and does not understand color spaces, but I can't find adequate alternative. I even started my own project ;)

ChrisKramer1: I must say Apple have outdone themselves by getting their smart phone reviewed on a photography website! When can we expect to see the review of the Samsung Galaxy 3, the HTC One or the hundreds of other smart phones out there? After all, DPReview would not want to be seen giving favour to Apple would they?

Incidentally, where is the review of the Pentax K30?

Apple is very strong in product placement. Try to find the movie where bad guy have an MacBook. Only good guys may have MacBooks.
