ZorSy: Fuji S602, I bought in 2002, had "hybrid AF" with external sensor helping live AF. It took Riicoh 8+ years to independently develop the same thing (and speed it up a bit). On these new cameras it looks the most advanced improvement is LCD. Are we supposed to be impressed?
Comparing an 10lbs watermelon with a Fuji-apple is leading you no where, aside from showing how subjective this subject are.
JackM: Come on Pentax, where is your S95, XZ-1 or LX-5 competitor?
Pentax now own by Ricoh, so look forward the next GR Digitial and GX series. And yeah the Pentax Q fit to compete well.
ArchieFergus: The point of the G12 and P7100 is that they have optical viewfinders, which largely explains their bulk but also gives them a big advantage in shooting moving objects (for which LCD screens and EVFs are useless). Such a shame that one has to look to cameras as bulky as these to get that feature these days
Could always go for the OVF if needed via the flash hotshoe.
nemark: Very attractive, and almost everything to make me pleased, .....but no EVF. Don`t know why so many manufacturers neglect so many of us with bad-for-LCD-viewing eyes? That is why I do not want to by G12 (otherwise great camera), nor any other compact in that class with about this specifications... OK, maybe piphole iz just good enough and precise for composing picture (with zoomed-out lens in the singht), but I want to control camera without switching eyeglasses and to preview just shot image in EVF. Thats why I still stick with veeeerry old Oly C740 for many situations when I don`t want a DSLR.I am willing to pay extra price for built-in EVF!So, not for me at this stage, no matter how high field results it delivers.
Sounds like you can try the Ricoh GXR, great control, real nice EVF, and depends on the modules you get great sensor too.
