OK this doesn't really answer your question but poses others:Bearing in mind that both the G15 and the P7700 lenses are new designs but seem to be using the same size sensor surely the better value...

It still has to compete with the Sony RX100 which has a larger sensor and a brighter lens and smaller body. The only made the camera smaller by getting rid of the vary angles screen, a big mistake...
-
Same goes for me. The G15 was eagerly awaited but received with great disappointment. Canon took a step back in time. What on earth possessed them to get rid of the vary angled screen. There was...

Good question about comparison with the G series. Of course until we get the G15 and the P7700 compared like for like we wont know and the the last G series the G12 did not have a CMOS sensor.I...

Looks like you are not going to get it with the new G15, they just lost the swivel screen!
I'm heading over to the Nikon camp, a P7700 is for me.

They lost the plot, how dissapointing. No articulated screen.
Two steps forward, one big step back.Lost my vote on this one, they already had enough pocketable cameras we didn't need another...

You waited a long time didn't you!
Not yet announced bit rumoured to be announced at Photokina 2012
G15, ƒ1.8 lens, digic 5 processor, CMOS sensor.

Just a rumour so far but credible. It has a viewfinder so it's a serious competitor to the Nikon P7700 maybe an announcement at the show but not available for months just like the EOS M :(Only head...

I agree that the Nikon P7700 is going to be a big competitor to the Powershot G range so Canon are going to have to pull a rabbit out of the hat for photokina if they dont want to lose business to...

Apparently according to a photo news site, the G13 will have:a new sensor, a new processor and an ƒ1.8 lens in the existing G12 body but let's see if the zoom matches the Nikon's 7.1x?
-
The original message was posted on the 7th of August and here we are only days away fro Photokina and still not a whisper about the G14. Either Canon have something really amazing up their sleeves...
-
Mention has been made that the sensor might not be larger but no mention as to whether it might be replaced with a CMOS sensor as to a wider lens that would be nice as well as a longer zoom at leat...

I agree with you as to the digic 5 processor and almost with the lens only differing slightly in that I am hoping from 24mm to 200mm. ƒ2 to ƒ4 but I'd be happy with 25 or even 26 to 180mm as long...

Seems amazing that this subject has not been discussed since february unless I am not reading it properly?Less than two weeks from Photokina and only the slightest hint that a couple of new...

I wish you luck on your trip although having picked up the G1X on a recent trip and compared it with my G11 I decided against it for various reasons, 1) it doesn't fit in my bum bag like the G11...

Like you I have been waiting rather desperately for a replacement to the G12 as I have a G11 which let me down badly last year on a holiday where I had made a special trip to catch the harvest moon...
