Replied in RAW files?
I'd appreciate being able to try them in a different converter.
However, of course a 14 stops DR is advantageous, and nobody might seriously claim the 5D Mk. II to be particularly good in terms...

Replied in Because people continue to demand low noise at crazy ISO values
... and therefore the color filter arrays are made as "thin" as possible, with insufficient selectivity which can only be compensated by massive computation of differential values - which in turn...

Replied in Greens look dead and dull on 5D Mk. II
I always wondered why shaded green in foliage is so dull in images from the 5D Mk. II and this is yet another example. There are even areas where the Nikon and even more so the Leica show...

Replied in 5D Mark III - AF Servo vs Cross Country
Congratulations - amazing photographs! Now finally that's an aspect in which the Mk. III shines compared to its predecessors, an application which justifies the premium to be spent despite...

Replied in Of course there's a huge difference in DR between sensors
There's obviously about the same difference in DR between RAW files from the latest-generation Sony sensor used in the D800 and the latest-generation Canon sensors, as is between shooting in JPEG...

Commented on First Impressions: Using the Nikon D800 article
Very useful article but I'd not share complaints about the MF/AF switch no longer having dedicated AF-S and AF-C positions, since the new concept with just AF/MF positions and a button at the...

Replied in First they'll need a sensor with sufficient DR [nt]

Replied in How about switching brand. Solved. +T
In landscape photography, clean shadows with the ability to lift them up in post to reveal details (as opposed to banding/noise) makes up for much of the difference between a good and a less useful...

Replied in Corsica sample image resized to 12.8 MP and back (shocking)
Pretty amazing. Thanks! I was often not quite happy with foliage rendering of my 5D (12.8 MP) when viewed at 100%; however these samples from the 5D Mk. III at the Canon site look like a bad joke...

Replied in 5DIII - new images
Maybe it's not a good idea to read too many posts here.
IMO they're quite similar. Comparing both to the xxxD series/Rebel or to a different brand would reveal differences in control layout...

Replied in Why would this make it a Nikon killer?
Fully agree with this.
And 38 MP would be the icing on the cake, but better 24 MP with great DR and colors than 38 with worse.
Personally I won't need more than 4 fps.

Replied in D800 - the apex of DSLR ... maybe, but ...
Might be true
well, not quite yet.
Forget about it. That would have to be a terrible quality at ISO 50 to be matched by ISO 12 800. At ISO 12 800 there's simply not enough photons hitting the...

Replied in 24 to 38 MP + best-of-class DR (!!) n.T.
Canon urgently needs to catch up in terms of DR and shadow rendering which is what convinces me most of the D800.

Replied in Dynamic Range
I agree, and this is the single most relevant factor why I haven't upgraded to the 5D Mk. II from the 5D yet. If an upcoming 5D Mk. III won't improve on DR, I may skip it as well and perhaps...

Commented on Phase One consolidates Mamiya and Leaf brands and lineups news story
Seems a sensible move. I also appreciate backs and bodies being sold separately - and hopefully being upgradeable independently.

Congratulations! Sometimes in photography everything is about the right moment.

Replied in 1D mkIII vs. Sony SLT a77
Well regarding pixel quality, of course larger photosites combined with high quality lenses are helpful. However up to a certain pixel density, at least at low ISO settings you will not be able to...

"A PDF is just a crappy, bloated, antiquated format" - obviously you haven't the slightest idea of what you're talking about. The PDF specification is pretty sophisticated and just because...
