  • The 1/1.7" sensors will continue to get better, and eventually will cross the 6 megapixel mark.  The 1" sensors have already crossed it. That puts you in entry level DSLR territory. We should have...
  • I would love to see a faster 01 Prime, but I don't think it's in the cards. With the release of the Q7, the 01 Prime is now my favoured equivalent focal length of 39mm. Very happy about this....
  • Shocking, I know. :-)

  • A few days ago, I bought 3 off-brand equivalents of this, for less than the price of one of these Nikons...

  • 'you will waste 0.6 stops mounting this on 4/3".'

Sigma wasted 0.6 stops making it an APS-C lens.

  • More interesting because 36-70mm is a more practical working range. You have wide, normal, and telephoto, in one fast lens. On APS-C, it only covers wide and normal.

    See the reviewers'...

  • This lens would be even more interesting on m4/3 giving you 36-70mm-e (moderate wide to moderate telephoto) at f/1.8.

  • Commented on Pentax Q7 Review preview

I agree with this assessment -- though I can understand DPR's conclusion, given the target audience of the site.

If you're a DSLR shooter looking for a P&S, the Q7 should be the natural choice, on...

  • Commented on Pentax Q7 Review preview

Props to DPR for putting in the time and effort to review this interesting little camera. As a small-sensor deep-DOF enthusiast, I've had my eye on the Q system for a while.

    My only real...

  • Commented on Fujifilm X100S Review preview

I don't think it's reasonable to compare the X100S to a camera out of the bargain bin (the EOS-M).

People actually like and want the X100S. The EOS-M was clearly a mistake. Canon is losing money...

  • Commented on Panasonic LX7 Setup Guide article

Thanks for going to the time and trouble to do the video. It really helped me understand the settings on the LX7.

I actually have 2 sets of settings now...

    1) yours, which I use in good...

  • Please don't take this the wrong way, but I'd much rather see a review of something like the Pentax 06 Telephoto 15-45mm. It's a far more interesting lens, and perhaps makes the Q system more...

  • @Timmbits, it's been a while since I used the RX100, but I came away with the feeling that it was unfinished. No grip made it difficult to hold, the shutter button had no click to it, and the UI...

  • Aside from general cynicism, I realy don't understand the constant questioning of DPR's objectivity. What do they have to gain by giving out bad advice?

They're owned by Amazon. What does Amazon...

  • @DigiMatt there are other photography websites on the web, you know. If DPR is not fast enough for your attention span, perhaps you'd be happier somewhere else.

    I'm sure Petapixel and Fstoppers...

  • Well, since you're so knowledgeable about sensor fab, do share... What's the cost and MOQ of a typical 4/3 sensor vs. an APS-C one?
  • Replied in Zero
FYI, if the sensor in your GH2 was APS-C size, you'd be able to do squares without cropping. As it is now, it's only multi-aspect for 16:9, 3:2, 4:3. For 1:1, it just crops the 4:3 down to 3:3.
  • Who said anything about changing the spec? The spec would be the same. By definition... Off-the-shelf part = no spec change I'd think this would be obvious. Not sure why you're clinging to such...
  • Actually, there is something magical about existing sizes. It's called "economies of scale". That's why, contrary to your claim, Panasonic uses a larger than necessary off-the-shelf 1/1.7" sensor...
