ETTE: D600 TARGET AUDIENCE?

I share some of the critics views here. I really don't get this camera, especially when the D800 has a ton more to offer. It is cheaper, but all the major features between these two are so huge that this camera makes no sense to me.

Just compare the D600 to the D800 first:
- 24MP image -vs- 36MP
- USB2 -vs- USB3
- 150k shutter -vs- 200k
- 39 point Af -vs- 51
- 5.5 fps max -vs- 6 max in DX
- 2,016 RGB -vs- 91,000
- Partial Magnesium Alloy body -vs- Full
- 9 Cross-type AF -vs- 15
- No Aperture in Movie Mode -vs- Aperture.
- 1/4000 -vs- 1/8000 speed
- 1/200 sync -vs- 1/250
- No Flash sync socket -vs- socket
- Minus 1EV -vs- Minus 2EV
... of what I can see so far....

If someone compares the D600 -vs- D800, I can't imagine a single reason why not buy rather the D800 and have a LOT MORE camera for NOT a lot more money. Or, if someone wants to save, then pick a DX camera or wait for the rumored D400. I really don't see the "target audience" for this camera. :-/

I must say: GET IT!!! Then discus it!
Just got it! It's a gem! Nowhere near D700... it's in this review: larger than D700, closer to D800!
Feels like 5% less D300. It really feels superb. It is not clearly pointed out how good it is in hend, like all Nikons are.

I love the performance on ISO 50, 100 and 200. That's what I needed.
But I am also very pleased that until 1600 is a great performer... very usable.
For more than that, well, buy something that's meant to be PRO!

ProfHankD: The FF 24MP sensors are nice... but I don't find them all that compelling on IQ vs. my APS-C 24MP NEX-7 (substitute that for the A77; the sensor does better without the SLT). The difference is minor in JPEGs with the NEX-7 looking particularly good in the graph. In the raw graph, the 24MP D600 is about as much quieter than the pack as the NEX-7 is noisier.

All good, but I'm still looking forward to the 54MP FF you'd get by scaling-up the NEX-7's APS-C 24MP... perhaps that'll be in a FF NEX next year? ;)

Yup! And never forget it! 24 is about the sweetest spot that we all were waiting for! ;)

astigmate: The old tamron 70-200 was 1:3,1 (f=200mm, MFD 0,95m), this one is 1:8 (at f=200mm: MFD 51.2") WTF ? What do we gain here tamron ? The USD was very needed, but changing theses specs + adding breathing will doesn't do any good. Add this to an expected bump in price and that's a deal killer. It better be an awesome optical performer...
And why no pentax version ? I own nikon gear, but forgetting pentax is just plain stupid IMHO.

If Nikon and Canon would make 0.95m close focus telephoto, than we would have same quality as with Sigma and Tamron! Right?
So, that minimum of 1.3m is one thing more that promises good picture quality!

techmine: I just need 3 things now:
Newly announced D600
Newly announced Tamron 24-70
Newly announced Tamron 70-200

Oh boy, I wish I was building my first camera system first :-(

My thoughts exactly! I do not believe...
I'll stick to the D300 + Tamron 17-50 for work, but will do the D600 + ultra wide + portrait + 70-200 combo :)

NorCalAl: I always considered Tamron below the other 3rd party suppliers. Sigma, then Tokina (though dependent on the lens, Tokina might be first), then Tamron. I've never really had a Tamron I considered quality. I had the fantastic plastic, 19-35 for Canon mount and it was decent. But nothing else.

It's true they are cheaper, but with cameras sporting ever increasing megapixels, cheaper looks worse all the time.

Maybe that test proposed would prove me wrong.

They do have cheaper plastics and outside finish... That does not make the picture!
They actually give you exactly best you need for the money! I am proud owner of 17-50 2.8 and as a pro I have abused it for over 4 years and it is great in all situations. Tack sharp and all from f/3.2... yes Nikon is from 2.8 - so?

Kerry Pierce: The d600 is okay, but I'd rather wait for the replacement cameras for the d300 and d700. When Nikon makes replacements with the same features and performance, but modern sensors and electronics, I'll be a buyer for both. I may pick up a d600 after they offer these bodies, because it looks like it might be a good camera to throw in the trunk of the car or the saddlebags of the bike.

C'mon Nikon, you can do a lot better than this. Let's see something really good.

D800? You've missed it?

Anepo: "We were one of the last manufacturers to come to the mirrorless segment, but nevertheless, within less than half a year, we became number one in Europe."

Jasper you are claiming you became the nr1 in Europe in mirrorless despite Olympus and Panasonic having dominated for YEARS. I don't know a SINGLE photographer who OWNS a Nikon 1 camera and I have only seen ONE on sale in the entire Icelandic photography community.

"How many people actually bought additional lenses for their 1 system cameras?"
Jasper:
"I don't have those figures, but we have an attachment rate that's higher than one, definitely."

You don't have the sales figures for the Nikon 1 either apparently, Jasper you are full of BULLS***!

Because of bulls***ters like these I gave up on Canon and Nikon and went to Olympus m4/3 from DSLR's. I am tired of being lied to and being spit in the face when I ask for ANY customer service!

Fine! Canon and Nikon make serious cameras for true professionals. No kids questions and answers. Enjoy your 4/3 - not SLR! :)
