Since the Gopro has a fixed lens on it, I presume that the various FOV settings are achieved by sampling different sized area's on...

I am very keen to get the Hero3 but they don't provide any decent details. I wonder what the bitrates are at the various video modes.

Also I wonder about the real horizontal FOV for each mode....
