I think AF-F is like AF-C but in live view it is just named differently  Why live view does not call it AF-C? AF-F is contrast AF and AF-C is phase detection AF, and i think nikon wants to keep...

For the work you do it sounds like the d800 would be the camera to get. If you are coming from a d300 the d800 will not be too diffident in handling and button placement.

with world wide roll outs and internet hype there are waiting lists for anything that is very popular.

They do have lenses that have been sold out here in the states. But i am not sure about ordering things that nikon usa would not fix. Has anyone here shipped lenses back to be fixed? how did it...

I have done one shot nef to HDR with the d800 that would have taken 3 photos in the past. still need to do many shots for night hdr, the noise just gets to be too much in the dark shadows on 20 sec...
