The samples look not good. Sorry Leica, but I cannot see any B&W tonality, I cannot get with my Canon 1 DX... or even with my cheap Canon 1100 D

The D800 is a great camera and the Samples are ok, but compared to my Pentax 645D medium format I miss the 3D look, the outstanding tonality and extreme fine detail. I think If you need a better allover image quality, you need a bigger sensor.

Svenson: Ok - I start to understand why Canon stopped at 22MP with their new 5DMKIII.
In perfect conditions (studio?) you ou have an advantage of the 36MP - but on the street. Vibrance is missing, AF accuracy seems to be crucial with this amount of pixel...

I agree. Compared to my Pentax 645 D I miss a good tonality and fine detail. I think 36 MP are too much for the small sensor. If you want a better all over image quality you need a bigger sensor. Even Pictures taken with my 1 DS MKIII and Zeiss lenses look better...

FineArtPhoto: The only reason to replace my 1D MKIV would be "much" higher DR.
But this camera is no replacement for my 1DS MK III. For landscape work and my Zeiss lenses I need more resolution.

I think its better to sell my 1 DS MK III, my Zeiss Lenses and buy a Pentax 645D...
