I recently took all my cameras and shot some photos of the same subject from the same distance with them.
These were my settings:
Leica M9 and 35mm lens at f/8, 1/60s, ISO 6400 (2500 pushed 1.3...

Reasons:-Lightest of the three (Sigma a bit heavy for me)-Slightly prefer the bokeh rendering to 50/1.4G-Focuses faster than 50/1.4G-Less susceptible to veiling glare than 50/1.4GI'm very happy...

I don't agree with you there. In order to get a lens which is both fast and small, you need to do some combination of the following: 1) have a lot of barrel distortion (which sacrifices...

Yes, that's what I said :-)

Yes, of course. However for a while, Lenstip completely ignored the fact that software correction exists, and even now they act surprised by the distortion of this lens, which is very similar to...

I don't know what you're talking about. Barrel distortion has been largely corrected by Lightroom. The only two things I can think of are: 1) Perspective distortion which you will see with any...

Probably not. I would love to do it but so short on time these days.

Thanks, Geoff. I only posted one crop with detail far from the center, but most of the RAW files I made available for download show some in focus detail off center. Two of them even show the...

Thanks, nazmi. The 20 is a higher contrast lens. I don't have a strong preference for more or less contrast in general, but I tend to like lower contrast lenses for black and white conversions.

Why do they always seem so surprised to see the distortion on Micro 4/3 wide lenses? Nearly all of our system's wide lenses use software correction of distortion, and this isn't their first time...

My younger son obliged me for about 3 minutes while I rattled off some sample shots with the new lens. All of these are wide open (f/1.8) with 100% crops embedded and RAW files for download below....

The Sigma has more attractive bokeh than the Nikon and Canon to my eye. Looks better than the Summilux M ASPH FLE to me as well. Here are a couple comparisons to the Canon and Nikon...

Sounds like field curvature, which is one reason that a wall is not the best test subject for this kind of lens unless you plan to use it to shoot walls (or maps, paintings, etc).

Olympus has been using this approach since the E-P1 and even prior to that with their DSLRs. Overall it's been a successful strategy. It's been relatively common to hear people complaining about...

If you are stopping down to f/5.6 or f/8, I don't think there is much difference between them. At f/4 the prime is sharper.
