  • And yet, the Canon XC10 still/video hybrid has a manual zoom lens. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GS_679c3xOo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0BLEzbHPL7Y A motorized zoom lens has nothing to do ...

Nice scene, but wow - what is that. Look at the distant shore's rocks/foliage. There are artificial contours being added to the detail - false highlights and shadows. It is even blobbing up real...

  • Agree with Ryan. If the camera can't create good JPG it's not of much use. Not everyone has the time or storage space to deal with RAW photos.

I too have the FZ1000 and am disappointed with some...

  • The difference in DOF even between the FZ30/FZ50 and the FZ1000 is significant. It does feel more like a limitation than a benefit to me.
  • Amen John! I came on the forum today thinking to post the same thing. I had a hope in the back of my mind that the FZ300 would be the reincarnation of the FZ30... with manual lens, twin dials etc. ...
  • This limitation can be removed once a firmware hack is developed, though it will probably be a few years before the FZ1000 gets one. See http://www.personal-view.com/faqs/ptool/ptool-faq
  • Weather sealing is a nice touch. Hopefully the FZ1000 successor gets it too.

  • At full zoom I regularly get good handheld results even at 1/15th with the FZ1000. The trick is to use the 2 second timer for those shots. Control breathing and brace the camera with both hands to ...
  • Respect to Sony, they are leading the way. I just wish that the RX10's zoom ring was manually actuated, not fly-by-wire.

  • You know, when I first saw the FZ1000 I thought that the sideways swivel LCD was a nice upgrade over my bottom hinged FZ30 since it could be articulated in more directions. Recently though, I have ...
  • -manually actuated zoom lens (not fly by wire) -front control dial (in lieu of zoom lever) -battery located in grip -centered tripod thread -more control over JPG processing engine (sharpening, ...
  • Yeah, the lens retraction is a real pain. I contacted my local Panasonic repair centre to complain about this - they said that they forwarded my e-mail to Panasonic HQ, but who knows if there will ...
  • Compared to the FZ1000:
Interesting that with a smaller body and larger sensor they were able to center the tripod thread. On the FZ1000 I can't change the battery even with my mini tripod shoe...

  • The images in the above posts are extremely oversharpened digitally and are not good representations of either camera's capabilities.
  • Turn the noise reduction down. It's currently smearing the moderate noise, but leaving the stronger noise. Specks look more pronounced because they are being "isolated" in this way.
  • IMO nothing wrong with the zoom range of the FZ1000. Specs are about perfectly balanced. The main thing I would change is the electronic zoom. Fly-by-wire is a nuisance, and wastes a lot of battery ...
  • Very impressive detail. I believe that it was done using super-resolution techniques discussed in this thread: http://www.dpreview.com/forums/post/55419283
  • the battery should be moved further out into the grip so that it can be changed while a tripod plate is attached.
