I've a 11-16mm f/2.8 (1st version) and I love it. Having such a wide aperture on a UWA lens is great since you can shoot easier in low-light (be it indoor shots, reportage or even star trail...

It depends on your preferences as well. I love UWAs so if I were you I'd bring the 10-24mm. Then maybe the 16-85 or the 35mm if I want more "reach".
-
I don't really care either. I rarely use it so even the poor-quality 720p video my D90 produces is good enough for my needs.
-
They have to differentiate lower and higher class cameras, you know? If you want these extras you could get a D7100.
-
The D90 is still a nice camera. A Dx00 will feel as a downgrade - smaller viewfinder, lack of upper LCD, worse ergonomics, etc, etc.

yes, on a beginner-level body.

Hmm, my 11-16mm is quite sharp in the edges even wide open. Maybe you tried a bad copy? I've heard of sample variations of this lens.
-
I've had the 18-105mm for almost 2 years and it's still going strong.

Nikon have been making 200-400/4s for 30 years. And with recent bodies one could also put a 1.7 or 2x extender and not be limited by the in-built one.
-
Blah-blah... you can mount a 2x converter on the Nikon while I doubt you'd be able do to so on this Canon.

Thank you for your comments, you've been very helpful!

Here are a few shots I recently took and thought you might enjoy. Would love to hear your opinions and critique.

This was a kinda rushed shot, fortunately I still managed to...

Thank you for your comment. Maybe I've been a bit picky about the quality at f/2.8 of the first shot, however I do really experience some focus shifts. Look at the left side, the railing is in...

I have a F-mount of that same Tokina and, judging by the samples, it really seems to be slightly decentered. Mine isn't perfect either, when I shoot wide open it sometimes gives me softer images as...

First of all, welcome to the dark side! :-D Second, I think it's Nikon who have a better lens selection of cheaper (but not bad) lenses. A great prime for every DX shooter is the 35mm f/1.8G one...
-
Why not? Unless you're shooting tight headshots, the 35mm is a good choice for portraits.
-
Should've been at least a stop faster...

Placed 10th in the challenge.

Sounds like a good idea to me! Here's my best one from the past week:
