I discovered this myself just today and your poster is sort of right, in iTunes you can select 1 (ie one and only one) album from your iPhoto library as the "album to use on your AppleTV"). You need to export that album from the library to a folder outside the library and away you go with the AppleTV. This is a signify drop from the original access to the whole library.
