I would say you got a lemon. Mine is super sharp at 2.8, unlike yours. I would exchange it for another copy if I were you.

Here are some ISO 800 shots I made while at Disneyland, it was never my habit to go above ISO 800 because I'm a firm believer in using fast lenses and IBIS to counter the need for light. I'm...

Totally agree with this assessment. I have a D800E and a D4 plus a whole slew of lenses for paid jobs, where I am not supposed to miss an important shot. I also have to bring out the heavy gear...

IMO there is no reason to force yourself to shoot in bad light, just find better locations. BIF is one advantage of the 600mm over the Pana 100-300mm, and maybe 30% better IQ.1/200th at ISO 800 is...

I'm not worried about camera shakes due to the amazing IBIS of the EM5, but subject movement is another matter. I prefer to keep the ISO low (ISO 800 is my max) because noise reduction will destroy...

Agree, a native 300mm f4 for m43 is gonna rock for sure. Probably twice the size of the upcoming 150mm f2.8.
-
Nice set of images! I agree that it cannot compete with top primes, but for a budget $500 consumer zoom, its IQ is more than acceptable.
-
I would want a 200-400mm f4 instead, for them to make a 100-400mm the performance at the long end would be pretty bad (at 300mm there's already a noticeable drop off in IQ)

I like the last one the best! Wonderful images overall.

I have uploaded the full version as well to see if that makes any difference.

Oh yeah for sure indoor sports would be a problem area for m43 in terms of getting a lock on AF, until they improve on the PDAF system, eventually.

While I admit the 100-300mm still has a ways to go in terms of sharpness, but certainly not "far and away" when you consider these images are shot at 1/200 sec for a 600mm shot. I have the 600mm...

Thanks, in fact I've checked the histogram and the whites are almost gone but not quite. My monitor is calibrated with Colormunki Photo though.

Nice shot! Haha maybe the same guy :) With the EM5 I enjoy the 5 axis IBIS which allows me to stay at around 1/200 sec for a 600mm shot and still get a decently sharp shot. You will no doubt...

Thanks. Like you said the 600mm f4 is used when you know exactly what you are going to shoot. But for trips where you're not sure you need the FL, the 100-300mm is the prefer choice. I posted...

Yeah, it really depends on what your mission is, whether it be ultimate quality, or versatility / portability. I didn't expect the Panasonic 100-300mm would exceed my expectation either. And for...

Thanks, yes, in an aviary, that's why the birds are not afraid of humans, they got used to it and I can get super close.

Thanks, I sometimes bring out the big guns for fast shooting, but after I got this gem I'm seeing less and less reason to lug around the big rig, for when I'm not reaching for ultimate quality.
