From my garden a few minutes ago. It's a camellia I think that is planted in my neighbour's garden but has worked its way through a fence and a hedge to bloom on my side. It must be about four...

Nice shots and plenty of detail. Adam and Eve stand out well in b/w while The Cannon shows up well in colour, Alistair.

Hello Tony,
Many thanks for your comments. I 'd really like to capture a large number of small flowers all in focus - like a William Morris wallpaper. I guess it's another pipe-dream, Alistair

Hello Trevor,
A few more from yesterday. First the back-lit early Purple Orchid and its insect visitor. I under-exposed to try to suppress the fact that the flower was getting past its best.
Second...

Hello Trevor,
Unidentified fly (gnat?) on an Early Purple Orchid in the Deep Dale Nature Reserve in Derbyshire today.
Not too many choices where to place the camera, and as I was walking with eight...

Hello,
Marsh marigolds from Deep Dale in Cumbria (formerly in Yorkshire).
Irises and another poppy in early evening sunlight (side-lit) back at home, Alistair.

Just nipped out to see how the poppy head is coming along.... Alistair

Hello Trevor,
The lilac blossom (first on this bush) was taken on a typically we

The poppy head was taken on one of our best evenings thus far, A.

Zinfandel,
A lovely shot, Alistair

Hello Kevz,
It IS a bit dark although I wanted some contrast. Side-lit as the sun crept around the wall.
Thanks, Alistair

Hello,
One poppy coming up! It was taken very early in the morning in order to get saturated colour. The flower bed faces south so by midday the colours are all looking a bit washed out, Alistair.

Beautiful series - not been there since 1976 but your images take me right back, Alistair

Splendid Gautam,
He (?) looks like a baby-boomer trying to impress female guests at a recent wedding reception.

Thanks Andy,
It certainly is rather lovely - I had not visited Hawick except to pass through and had no idea just how good the walking is. Had hoped to drag my companions to the Moffat Hills - but...

Hello Andy,
Just back from a week's walking in southern Scotland, where I found some interesting macro subjects, some fine landscapes and a (to me) intriguing landscape. Unless of course it is...

Quite an education to see what the canyon looks like with some haze. It seems as if the unspoken convention is that it shall be photographed only in clear conditions! Good stuff! Alistair.

Yes, I was thinking that many fossils - eg Archaeopterix - are like paintings; so flat.
Gautam reckons it's rose quartz and probably goes back about half a billion years to when Scotland and...
