I am not experienced with flash portraiture. In a recent photo club event I used high speed flash to shoot this outdoor model portrait, resulting dark (under exp) face. I used Photoshop brush layer...

Hi friends,
I am on Alaska cruise and today I am in the first port of call Ketchikan. I took a fishing & crab tour and there were lots of eagles in near range. I took near 200 shots (they were all...

Due to very expen$ive internet connection on cruise, I will have limited response here. But your comments are much appreciated!

Thank you Ed for the nice vote! :)

I am on Alaska inside passage cruise. This is my "Day 1" shot (2 hours after departure):

I just find out that one of my China trip photo "Lonely moon" was voted as 1st place in Silence challenge. I feel pretty lucky this time, and A99 did really good job too. I was able to process...

I hope Sony is not intentionally withhold AF-D support to other (mostly third party) lenses. They need to attract new users, AF-D (focus range too) is one of their few calling cards.
-
Well from what I can tell, it focus perfectly in AF-D mode, if use off centre AF point I can see other assisting AF points showing up, and of course focus range works as expect. There is a lens...

Roxanne, to do AFMA you need one of four Sony bodies: A77, A99, or the old A850 & A900. Normally to test lens focusing I mount the lens on tripod, Steady Shot OFF, cable release, 3 shots (pick the...

I don't think you can set up LCD auto review while disable auto review in EVF. They are from the same source. Just press preview button.

My Tamron 70-300 USD does AF-D perfectly, maybe because it share same ID as Sony 70-300G? By the same logic does Sigma 70-200 share ID with Sony 70-200 and got AF-D support?
-
I bought Sony 70-200 used for $1500 and for the most part I am happy with it. Sharpness, bohkeh, colour, handling and built quality are really first class. However my copy does need micro AF...

in menu, you can set preview effect ON. Of course image in EVF is slightly different than LCD display (OLED vs LCD) but for most part they are remarkably close, and should give you very good idea...

I had this Sigma before, while I liked it for what it was but sharpness at 150mm was not very good unless stop down to F4. So I "traded" it with Zeiss 135/1.8 prime. Huge difference in image...

That's my Favorite truck too, thanks to your good work!

I always leave it OFF. One of the benefits of SLT is true live view WISIWYG therefore you don't need to check image (exposure, WB, focus, etc.) like regular DSLR users.

Thanks for the quick and detailed answer, although it doesn't help my wallet! My experience with A99/70-400G when using AF-D is that once you established focus lock, the original G I has no trouble...

Very nice series (good looking girls too). Great panning skill is evident in these sharp images. How is your impression of 70-400 GII AF speed compared to GI if you used one before?

Cool, I might book one of the bear watching tour with them. Thanks for the link Craig!
