I shot this same guy back in 1996!!! Kathmandu, right?http://upload.pbase.com/image/144950252
'HK Bay'??? It's called Victoria Harbour.
Vitruvius: I have been reading the comments here for years but it looks like all the smart people have left the building or have stopped offering valuable opinions for frree to idiot trolls. No point wasting any more time here. I just hope DPreviews keeps up the quality of their reviews otherwise this site is really headed down the tiolette.
I said the same thing LAST year. I stop in once in a while to weed through the crap, but nothing has changed; brand wars, misinformation spewed from every corner and flame throwing/bashers.
These Zeiss lenses don't even get especially good reviews from independent reviewers, like Photozone or Bjorn Rorslett.Like someone also said, they are made in the same plant as Cosinas; not bad, but also not the old Zeiss whose prices they are extrapolating onto these.
Customer profile: largely the same people who spend wads on Leicas and high end Canon and Nikon pro bodies and haven't a clue why they would need it or how to benefit from having one.Go on one of the photo storage sites and see the crap most Leica owners fill their galleries with.I have a friend with an eight thousand dollar canon body and he doesn't even know if it's full-frame or DX! Nor does he know what a polarising filter is.
It's the more money than brains crowd.
Three months later...where IS IT?
Nikon wants to control the $$$$$ of repairs is more like it.Make it too expensive to repair and the masses will have to buy more cameras.
I used a D200 with a pop up flash that would never stay down from about 3 months on rather then send it away and spend hundreds to fix it.
It figures...people here have been whining for more MP from Nikon to the point of many of us screaming and or leaving DPR and now that they deliver BIG TIME we get reverse whining.
Isn't it really more about their need to whine than their real photographic needs?
Dan Ortego: Having owned a Leica M8 I would feel embarrassed to haul around the X100. Worst decision I ever made was to sell the damn thing along with those fantastic primes.
Not to mention half the people who own Leicas haven't got a photographic eye in their heads! Not all but most of their portfolios are full of wanna be crap!
Can they get any uglier!
Can't wait to see some rich dweeb packing one of these turkeys!
A well deserved challenge winner.
Beautiful work. Ignore the whinners.
