I agree 100%. I take both types of picture. Some are just for identification or recording. Others are about an aesthetic. When I'm lucky I get both - but sadly not often.

As mentioned by a couple of the posts sharpness is not everything. It can be misleading and is not necessarily desirable. If you have seen the difference between sauy a laser proter and ink jet...

Thanks I used a 400 5.6I am looking at upgrading from the 60D but am still dithering - I think I shall wait and look at either a 6D or a 7D2 if it comes out. The only problem with the 60D is it is...

Thanks for the info. Valuable to hear from someone that actually uses both. i was going to buy a pals 5D2 as he is getting the 5D3. Now I shall save up and get the 6D.

I wonder if I had a bad copy althogh it focused OK - it is a slow lens. It turned me to primes! I have just bought my first non canon lens - a Tamron 180 macro. I must say I am impressed so I am...

I am using a new tamron 180 macro on a Canon 40D body. I have mostly used a Canon 100 2.8 EF non IS on the same body. I am quite pleased with the new lens but feel I am not getting quite as good...

Fascinating. So is the mushroom a digital "drawing" that has used a picture taken from a camera in the normal sense and then rendered through a graphics package?A great effect.

Damn - I just got hooked by macro and was interested in this thread. Put me down as a follower if it gets up again.

Exactly my choice also 85 1.8 - a great lens! Immense colour - you can keep a reasonable distance and as fast as hell. A short lens also helps lessen lens shake and is lighter.

I must be the only person in the world that did not like the 25-105. When I got it I was in the land of the guy who has bought a car that is a lemon - he has to convince himself it is a great car....

Well you have to start somewhere. I have covered five weddings now. i only have a Canon 60D and I expect your gear is as good if not better than mine. It is all about setting things up first and...

A lot. I used it yesterday to get a shot from high above reeds. i also use it for the low down shots and macro. I just decided against picking up a 5d2 body cheap - The deal breaker being the...

Nice work. You might like to look at some of the shots I got with my 60D and the 400 5.6http://stevekeeling.smugmug.com/Animals/Bird-photography/17744327_hpWZGs#!i=2104347794&k=VLxZZ3r

I have a 60D that I use with a 400 5.6L ca non lens for bird shots. It works very well and I really like this camera. I also use an old 40D with a canon 100 2.8 and 180(Tamron) macro lenses.I...

I agree - I made money with over the years with some very basic cameras. I made a bare living with an old Olympus E10 for a couple of years and now, although I have the use of a 5d2 but actually...

I have a 60D also and the use of a pals 5D2 - for the type of shots that I do - mostly birds and macro I find that the 60D with a 400 5.6 is as good as the 5D2 with a 300 2.8. However, if I wanted...

I agree. For the money it looks pretty good to me. The f2 lens will push me toward it regardless and the fact I can put my quite large collection of L series lenses with it be a big factor in my...

Placed 105th in the challenge. I wanted this shot to look like the realist paintings of I Ching.
