I have the NEX 6.  I rarely shoot video, but you can shoot video at iso 6400.

Definitely not.  Portraits can be improved with a bit of softening.  All photo editing will adversely affect detail. If the picture looks good do not sharpen.

I shoot only raw with manual exposure---I use virtually no noise reduction till 1600, and then only a fraction---at 3200 noise because noticeable.

Very strange---The camera that got the highest review ratings of all milc's, the NEX-7, is not even on the list---No vote!!

I bought  the Nex-6.  Never use the screen, only EVF, and if there is no way to turn off  the screen than it's just a useless hassle.

Not sure what kind of photography you shoot (news, fashion, sports, weddings etc.) but I'll try and help.  Raw image quality is as good as any midrange DSLR (aps-c). Auto focus can be slow...

There will likely be a new 7 next summer--probably relatively minor improvements--Could be a FF by 2014--- or is that wishful thinking:-)

Unfortunatly nex zooms int the range you want (50mm +) are quite slow, 4.5 or more and not particularly useful for narrow DOF. You really do need a 50 mm 1.8 prime with the Nex for narrow DOF

Sony has a slight problem with over saturating.  It the whites in your pictures are coming out true than that may be the problem.  I don't know the 5n, but the Nex 6 has an in camera adjustment for...

PDAF-- comparing sigma 19 and the sony 16-50 in low light shows a much faster AF for the 16-50.
