Yeah, I probably expected a bit too much. I did compare it to my D80 (at ISO100) and surprisingly (considering it's from 2006) the D80 is still a tiny bit better than the V1. I wasn't expecting...

I bought my V1 6 weeks ago and I'm pretty happy with it so far as a companion to my D7000. I love how fast it is and the display is amazing (zero lag!). What I don't like is the noise at low ISO's....
