Well, to disagree slightly, faster lens, better technique, and manual shooting help, but I don't think you're going to really get much more from a D40 for indoor sports. I shoot varsity sports...

I tried cleaning the contacts thoroughly again. No luck. If I press the dop button on the D3s with the 24-70, I get an ERR message too. The D3s will not let me actually take a picture with the...
-
But, if it was a power issue, would that not affect my 70-200 - or any other lens - when it is mounted as well?
-
No... it didn't go completely dark. What it looked like is if you put the lens on, take off the cap, but forget to turn on the camera. You get that dim view, as if the aperture was closed up. It...

I'm shooting a track meet right now, and use my 24-70 long for awards presentations, tight shots, etc. I was about to shoot a presentation when the image was "dark"; I took a test shot, and then...

Huh... good to know that I'm not the only one that seems to think the ON/OFF switch toggles too easily. I couldn't figure out if I was just being careless and forgetting to turn off the camera.

I've only had my X-E1 for a couple of weeks, and literally got the 35 mm a couple of days ago. I updated both to the latest firmware that is supposed to improve AF. However, given that I haven't...

Hmmm... I can't find this promotion on Henry's website. Was it just yesterday?

Your photographer looks less than amused - hey, those are the best shots! :-D Surprise!

Yep... I'm very aware of this... given the uncertainty of a direct D300/D300s replacement and the fact that I have one more major photo event in March, I'll think I'll wait until then to decide,...
-
Sometimes, I swear my D300 set up autofocuses faster than my D3s too...

THAT would have been what I would have wanted. Throw in an articulating LCD screen for those awkward angles, and I would have been a happy camper. :-)

I guess it says something when I look at all of Nikon's latest offerings and none seem worth spending the money given what the D300 is still capable of...
-
The D3s is great, but if Canon and Nikon are really considering this - witness the "affordable" D600, it could explain why there hasn't been a clear successor to Nikon's D300/D300s.
-
Huh... well, people seem to enjoy the D300 still so much, I guess I should keep mine as a backup instead of trading mine in! :-D
-
That's true... it is a dirt cheap backup. I have the grip, and a functional assortment of DX lens, and of course, can throw on the FX lens as needed. It was my main camera until 2.5 years ago when...

Any opinions on whether I should trade in my D300, or if I should hang onto it as a backup caemera? I shoot with a D3s, and ever since, my D300 is mostly collecting dust. However, if I trade it in,...

I'm glad I'm not the only one who seems to be thinking along these lines with Nikon's mid-range offerings. As I mentioned in other posts, I shoot with a D3s and the venerable 70-200 for sports, and...

I picked up an Olympus XZ-1 at half price last year - a bit on a whim - and have been very pleased. As a walk around P&S, it cannot be beat. I bought it for the full manual control, but found that...

This was a very good blog, and he also had a link to the XPro-1, which I was considering. All things considered, I think I made a good choice going with the X-E1.
