As always, it depends. I have used both, so here it goes.
If you generally shoot at 50mm or below, then the M9 is a no brainer and hard to beat when you look at its small size and the total imaging...

Rented the D800E and the new 70-200 F4 last week for a trip to the countryside. This was my first time using this camera and in fact the only the 2nd time, I used a Nikon FF (I used a D3X earlier...

Photography is not some "noble" profession that requires wearing a big hat, constant critique of pictures or hand wringing about making bad pictures using Leica gear. There is nothing wrong with a...

All shots were with the Panasonic Leica 45mm.

There is no mathematical formula to determine whether one camera should be 1.5x, 2.5x or 0.8x the price of some other model. If the differences are not significant to you, then get the cheaper one....

If you really want to look at DXOmark scores, then Leica M's scores are nothing brag about considering its price and it still trails behind Nikon D800, RX1, D3X, etc. Given that M9's DXOMark score...

Excellent read, packed with great information. For a change, it was good to read opinions from pros who make a living out of it and a refreshing detour from the opinions on various DPR forums from...
-
That is a good idea, but you must understand that some people like to give their opinions even when they have actually not used the camera. Opinions based on sensors scores, for example.
-
No, that is incorrect. DXO sensor scores do not test the lenses or camera as a "package". The scores reflect only sensor performance.I believe anyone can be on any forum they like to. I do own the...
-
Yes. Large sensor in a small body is always attractive.
-
By your logic putting a small sensor in a big body would increase sensor performance as apparently body size has impacted Leica M9 sensor performance.
-
Great camera package for whom? Did DXOmark rate the camera package? Or, did they rate the sensor? How does that sensor rating actually translate to real world results? Quoting DXOmark sensor...

I would suggest you rent or borrow a Leica M9 or Leica M-E, slap on the 50MM Summilux ASPH or even a cheap Zeiss 50MM ZM Planar, process the DNGs in Lightroom, check the results on a good monitor...

Excellent shots, some of the best I have (not) seen!

Thanks for the link. I had one earlier, sold it and then this price was a no brainer. I was able to get one from the local Best Buy. Of about 20 stores in the area, only one had it and that too it...

This Sony will last longer than say, a Leica M9. With M9's cracked sensor issue, SD cards being wiped out and rendered unusable by M9, the RX1 is much better.
-
Yes. It would make a great project to go with a "partial" Coolpix 5700 as the only camera for one year and report your experience with it.

I bought the X1 shortly after it was first introduced to the market. At that time, I was stunned after viewing its output (after processing the DNG in LR) - it was unbelievable that such a small...
