According to Wiki: Caving—also occasionally known as spelunking in the United States and Canada and potholing in the United Kingdom and Ireland—is the recreational pastime of exploring wild (generally non-commercial) cave systems.
Edit: I post this out of respect for those of you with scabbed knees, callused hands and broken fingernails who actually ventured into the dark...
As one of those scabbed kneed "spelunkers" i couldn't agree more. In fact i was forced to check that dpreview was indeed British before agreeing that this was indeed a mere accidental Americanism...
